Nah, I don't think that was it at all. He just saw the $$$$$$$ from out state riders !

 :nervous:

True!  we have some of the greatest routes here in Michigan and with Ohio, Indiana, and Illinois non-helmet law states, it keeps riders out.  Having a Governer that wants to invite people and business to Michigan is a good thing after having decades of leadership protecting the interests of the annointed few closing the doors to business.  More than likely, I will still wear my helmet until I pull out of my driveway and turn the corner out of site from my wife.

"Although the law was passed with immediate effect, it sets out certain conditions that must be in place before someone can legally ride without a helmet.

It lets motorcyclists who are at least 21 years old choose whether to wear a helmet if they carry at least $20,000 in additional medical insurance. They also must have passed a motorcycle safety course or have had their motorcycle endorsement for at least two years
"

OK, so how do they plan to enforce that one?  Somehow a cop will just be able to "know" as he rides past that rider A is only 20 years old or doesn't carry additional insurance or hasn't passed a safety course?  Sounds like another BS law written by idiots more interested in getting votes than they are in creating meaningful and easily enforced laws.  If they want to eliminate the requirement for helmets, then just have the balls to do it, plain and simple.

Jerry

Most states have that rider in place just to appease the people who are against the helmetless law. I asked an LOE years ago while in Florida about that. He say's no one ever gets stopped.

On our Chapter Dinner ride last night we had One individual choose to go w/o his helmet, the rest of us 12 wore ours.
But it was 'Our Choice'

I think it is great MI has given you the choice.  I used to live, and ride, in MI until 2000.  I always had to wear one and I was used to it, until I moved to AZ.

At first I didn't feel comfortable riding with out one, but after awhile i figured out the meaning of riding free.  It was awesome, don't get me wrong, I still with a helmet, more times than not, I just love having the choice.

Great news, this will make my MI trip this year much more enjoyable.  I was born and raised in Battle Creek, and head up to MI once a year, beautiful state, Taxes are too high, cost of living is too high.

Headed up again this year for bike times in Muskegon and a ride around the UP just like last year.  The UP will be so much nicer with out the Lid.

We have been very close three times now to being able to have the choice, Governor has blocked it from passing.

MI like TN has some fantastic roads for Motorcycles.

I think this is a personal choice and believe this among other things that the government should stay out.

I know that many disagree with this philosophy and I understand, I just do not agree
