Title: 110 Replacement with S&S 124LC
Post by: Thom on December 07, 2019, 12:09:38 PM
I would love to hear from anyone that has the CVO Road Glide Ultra 110 engine go bad and that has replaced it with a S&S 124LC.  Is this a good choice and does everything from an electronic perspective work properly?

There are a number of reasons why I would recommend against this and just installing the S&S hot setup kit on your case. PM me and I will give you the details.  I am an S&S dealer and profit is not part of my judgement.

we`ve built tons of 110`s into 124,which i would recommend over getting a cratet motor

Better imo to build the 110 into a 117/124
Should save you enough money for a TB and clutch

Intresting responses, I put a 124 HC crate motor in my 12 CVO Roadglide about 4 1/2 years and 50,000 miles ago and have loved it with no issues (other than rear tire longevity..). I have attached the Dyno from when i had it tuned. Runs amazing!

Box stock 124hc engines don't make much more than 135-140 horse
It generally takes another grand in headwork to make that mark

124lc engines are usually around 125 horse
Built on an assembly line and they have a few issues
Mainly cylinders,pistons and rings
Some live long reliable lives some do not
I've fixed at least a dozen sets of s&s cylinders this year and I'm sure I'll see that many again this year
As Don and Kirby stated it's better to have something built with a mix of parts known for better reliability taylored to how you ride than a generic underpowered crate

For me the biggest advantage to keeping the HD Motor and modifying it would be keeping the serial number. I know there are lots of opinions here but having a aftermarket motor kills the value to most folks. Regardless of power you have severely devalued the motorcycle to the average buyer.
Don't take my word, ask the dealership sales MGR. Two bikes on the floor, one with a 110 & the other with a S&S anything. MAJOR value difference.
