Riders Edge
« on: October 08, 2009, 06:40:58 AM »

Well,

I'm in for it now!!!   I start Riders Edge tonight with my Daughter (21yrs and all of 5'2) and my 16 year old son.

I have taken MSF before but they wanted me to take the class with them. (I suspect so they can tell me "Nuh uh uh,

thats not what they taught us in class"!) LOL

Any advice???

Enjoy it, as a Riders Edge instructor I just had a father and daughter in class.  This is not unusual, and works out well for everyone.

Let us know how it goes.

Here's a good for you. I took the class last year with my wife for the same reason you are. Now, remember the answers to the first part of the test is YES - there is no NO's. This was like a quiz not the end test. Good Luck

So true, in my day we learnt on our road craft on the road, riding alone or with our crazy friends!

Jesse concentrating on the swerve portion.   I just noticed his helmet isn't tight!!!!    Instructors were pretty tough.....you had to dismount totally if you were even just cleaning glasses. All gear all the time on bikes.    I'm actually quite suprised they didn't catch him as they told others to "tighten up"

In the main we had a great time!!!!    Conni had trouble with cramping on her clutch hand but she toughed it out!!!

Instructors checking her gloves fit after a particularly long riding session.  (She was in pain and they could tell)

I have to say the class was well worth it and we all had a great time.

I am very proud of my daughter for hanging in while in obvious pain ( they wanted her to sit out but she said she could handle it )

She scored 87 riding 98 written and my son had 97 riding and 92 written (Second highest score in riding!!!!) and I have to say I was a lil proud of myself!!!   100 riding and written   (I could not let them best me.....lol) :orange: :mango: :bananarock: :apple: :jalapeno: :cucumber: :pineapple: :pepper:

Dec last year I bought a friends 83 Ironhead (His first bike) for them to learn on but it was set up for a 6' plus rider and neither could reach anything. It is a rat looking bike but had just been rebuilt top and bottom and for a 1000 Sportster it screams and is fun to ride.

The day after I bought it I saw a 98 883 with all the bells and whistles you can get on a sportster for sale on Craigslist for an unbelievable price. I called and the guy just wanted to get rid of it so he priced it low. This bike is so cherry I don't like to ride it myself.....lol.  It has a 1200 kit with 1100 miles on it and it has some get up and go also. So for now it is "Share a ride" although my son has grown about 5" since last Dec and can now reach on the 83.

The weather here has now turned to crap so lessons/practice are on hold for now and they are chomping at the bit!!!  I'll try to post some pics this weekend.
