Title: Might need a new site handle after this ...
Post by: 110tHunDer on May 19, 2012, 11:23:31 AM

Today the SEEG went on its last ride.  It returned back to the dealer where I bought her new.  It's a bittersweet day in some respects.  The SEEG was a great bike for 39,000 miles, many of those spent with the great folks from this site at various get-togethers and even cross-country trips.  But, I felt the time had come to do something different.

Something different is a brand new SEUC in orange and black!  I'm real excited about picking it up in a week or two and look forward to doing a few mods, just gonna try not to get as carried away as with the SEEG!  More pics from the better camera when I get home!

Congrats on the new scoot! Lots of luck limiting the mods. You might want to check into a 12 step program.

never thought you'd part ways with the SEEG. did the break down influence you or was that the SEEG's way of saying good bye due to the new purchase?

All I can say is "wow"!  Well good for you.  But I can't believe that you are letting the Seeg go. After the recent upgrades too.  I can tell you first hand it's hard to resist all those new "upgrades" that come on the new bike.   Congrats and enjoy your new ride.  I'm really happy for you.   :2vrolijk_21:

It's hard to tell what happened first. :nixweiss:  But somewhere on that trip I made up my mind I was gonna let it go.  Things break and need to be fixed and I understand that, but that didn't really help matters.  Cruise was acting fussy after I got back on the road and the GPS gave me a weird error message when it booted up once, too.  I looked at the SEUC 3 or 4 weeks before leaving for RibFest.  When it was still there when I got back and with all the sudden issues with the bike, I took it as a sign the new bike was meant to be.

Thanks for all the congrats! :beerchug:

Brian, First, congratulations on the new bike!!  I know how attached you were to the SEEG, and rightfully so...there is no prettier bike than the B/B SEEG...but I don't think you will regret this for a minute once you get the bike.  Despite the potential issues with the 110" motor, it is a strong motor with regards to performance.  As much as I loved my '06, in some ways I'm glad things happened the way they did and I've got the '11 SERGU.  The extra "do dads", new frame, better tires, comfortable seat and other creature comforts make the new bikes a lot more enjoyable to ride, for me.  Make a few mods that you know will have to be made, and never look back.

Enjoy, my friend!  :2vrolijk_21:

I think you're right, Terry.  It took me a long, long time to warm up to these new ones, but I'm there now.  There will never, ever be a prettier bike than the B/B SEEG, IMO, but I hear what you're saying about the new ones being a more enjoyable ride.

I'll tell you what, it's a damn lot taller than the SEEG, though!  Feels like a heckuva lot more than an inch, too!  But the extra ground clearance in the curves will be welcome!

Yea, Brian, it does feel like more than an inch, especially for my short azz.  You'll like the handling though...once you put something decent under it.

Brian, buddy, congrats man.  Hope you love the new ride as much as you have the SEEG.

A bit of a bittersweet posting yours is (did that sound like Yoda?).  For the last couple months I've been considering more and more selling the red 05.  Yesterday finally came to a conclusion and have been cleaning and doing final services on it today to get it ready.

I'm not so much bent toward a new bike.  Just have gotten a bit bored with that one.  Not even bored actually.  Wrong word.  I just don't pay it much attention.  If going more than a day anywhere I take the Road Glide.  For local screwing around the Road King is now more fun.  The SEEG sort of falls in between.

When I brought the SERG home it had about 10k.  SERG now has close to 40K and SEEG has only gained 7500 miles in that same time.  SERK just got an earned oil change from miles just this spring.  So, just like your great 04, I'm thinking it's time the red bike got a home that will use it more.

Your new bike looks great Brian.  Miles of smiles man.  Enjoy the great new ride.  :2vrolijk_21:

Don, it's funny to hear you talk about the SERG that way.  I had the sales manager take me to where the SERG was after we did all the paperwork.  First time I'd been on that bike in nearly a year and did a nice 75 miles on back roads home.  Man, what a great ride.  I'll be quite happy waiting out the next 2 weeks on that machine.  There is just something about those bikes. :2vrolijk_21:

Congratulations, Brian!   :2vrolijk_21:

My seller's remorse usually only lasts for an instant.  As soon as the old ride's out of site, and the new ride is in my possession, it's over.

And let the new mods begin!   :drink:

Actually, there's only one former bike that I occaisonally miss...my '04 O/B SEEG.  I think it's the best looking bike I've ever owned, and it never gave me a bit of trouble.

Not to get the cart too far ahead of the horse, but I know you well enough that I'm certain you've given this at least SOME thought  ;)  What exhaust and tuner are you going with?  I'll leave it alone at asking that...even though I know you've thought about suspension as well

Congratulations Brian, very nice choice!

I still remember seeing your SEEG for the first time at the MV GTG in 05 I think, when Rain Man and I came down there on our SEFB's. I remember you being bold installing the street glide mirrors and how nice it looked. Between your bike and Spyders it defiantly influenced my decision in me getting my B&B SEEG. I just cant part with mine still finding more mods to do, I just love that bike.

I know you want to keep from spending the bank on the new one but I really hope you go to it like you did on the SEEG and take it to its full potential. I can see how modding that bike to the max would really be fun to drive long distance. It will look so nice next to your SERG in the garage!

Scott, that's the longest I've ever kept a bike!  But, really, I thought I'd have it forever. :-\  When I look back on it, though, I probably should have done something a year or two ago and not put even more $$$s into the '04 in the meantime.  Hindsight is 20/20.  Still, I can say I enjoyed every mile with that bike and I'll look at the many, many photos I have of it with fond memories.  Hopefully, its eventual new owner will get a fraction of the enjoyment out of it that I did.

Hehe!!  You're good, Terry!  I gotta do some checking with Fulsac to make sure I'll be good to go later (*wink*), but plan on going with their x-pipe and 2" baffles.  The tuner will be the SE Super Tuner.  And that's all I'm gonna say about that!  As far as the suspension, I am going to cheap out up front, at least for starters, and try out the new Harley dual cartridge front suspension because I'm getting free labor on the install.  If it don't measure up, AK-20s will be next.  But from what others here have said, it sounds like a close alternative.  Don't have the Bitubos ordered just yet, but that's the plan for the rear .... soon enough.

Congrats on the new ride!  Too bad the SEEG had to go, a great bike, perfectly maintained.  You did pick the right color combo for sure, gotta love O/B.  Minimal mods? Ha!

Oh Noooooo, mr. bill.....say it ain't so.  My ole '04 huckleberry partner from the early days......gone to who knows where?  Congrats on the nice up-to-date scooter tho, really.. :2vrolijk_21: :balloon:  :balloon2: :2vrolijk_20: :juggle: :2vrolijk_09:..according to all that have make the more up, you'll love it (esp. with your taller legs)  I still can't believe that Terry enjoys that taller ride.  One of my 1st thoughts when looking at the pic of the new ride was:  wonder if they let him switch out the LED's and then in a later post saw that you did.  Good going.  They're great lights aren't they?  Who'll get your B/B?  Hope it's someone special, 'cause that was a choice scooter the way you'd set it up.  I'll be standing by like the others waiting for your attention to this one to begin.  And now 2LnRider's gonna split with his SEEG also.....ohhhhhh, no mr. bill........say it ain't so.  Who's next?  D00d?  Stu?  Ohhhhh nooooooo.  spyder

I'm sticking with my SEEG, got too much money in it to let it go!  Besides it still runs and rides the way I like it.  Also, I know I'd dump a lot more money into a new one anyway.

Yep Jerry, working on Caterpillar equipment for 36 yrs gets in your blood. The only way I could be happier is if they had the metalflake in the Yellow like they did the Orange, but I am still tickled Yellow with my Yellow Jacket! :D :2vrolijk_21:

Spyder,

I remember back at the 2005 MV (Soggy Valley) event, You, Brian and I had the Blue/Blacks SEEGs and they were by far the best bikes and colors there!  :huepfenjump3:  I jumped ship a long time ago selling mine in 2006 to my Brother in Law.  That leaves you Spyder as the lone B/B from that event....you are the Cheese!

Congrats Brian on the new Scoot!.

/Bill

But I still have my 03 SED (My first CVO) which just turned over 10K the past couple of weeks.  I have no plans to let it go now or in the foreseeable future.

Really happy for you on the new bike.  Know it was a hard decision on giving up the faithful 04 as it was for me on the 05..  I like the 10 better than the 05 as most things get better with improvements whether it be cars etc..  When Harley makes the next major change, I'm sure it may be better also..
Before I bought my 10, I had a couple well respected members that had 04's and 05's purchase the 09's and they told me the 09's were so much better than the SEEG's.  Went with their advice and haven't looked back.   Looking forward to the post(s) on the addon's..

Thanks to all for the comments!  I'm really getting anxious to get the bike home now.  2 days since I did the deal already seems more like 2 weeks.  So, the "bonding" process seems to be off to a strong start, just need to roll some miles on the bike to complete it!

But ............. I will NOT get carried away with the mods ...... I will NOT get carried away with the mods ....... I will NOT ....... ::)

Well Brian didn't I tell you not to ride JR's because this would happen, I had the same trouble when I rode Jock's bike in Tahoe. About the mods like I said at dinner in Memphis keep it simple Fulsac x pipe 2" baffles and  maybe fueling 574's with tuner. I think Chip & Jock would agree, keep the front end and stay with the stock shocks atleast for now! Congrats on this beautiful bike!

I agree Don! My banana was my first love (of motorcyles :P) It was a difficult decision to move on but now that I have, I can honestly say I have no regrets! I don't think I will ever have the run of emotions I experienced getting my nana however, I love everything I have in my Yellow Jacket and am glad I moved on. :2vrolijk_21:

Brian, strictly FYI for what it's worth.  I rode a bike last week just after the Harley cartidges went in.  Have also ridden some with the Progressive Monotubes.  Preference for front suspension went with the Monotubes kit from those I've been on.

It's all good!  I like the fact that we all have strong opinions!  I got a deal on the Harley stuff I couldn't pass up!  There isn't much on this site about it, but what I did find was favorable.  I knew the chances of getting down to Traxxion this year were slim and I figure this HAS to be better than the stock setup.  So, it'll leave the dealer with this and if I get passed in the corners too many times by all y'all with Mono tubes and AK-20s, it's gonna be game on! :huepfenlol2:

Thanks, Jeff!  I can't complain about the deal.  They started out on trade value where 2 other dealers were 15 or 16 months and about 5,000 miles ago and I got another 5% more than that in the final deal.  I've always had good experiences with their shop, too, unlike the local one here. :o  Sure as hell wasn't gonna drop that kind of money locally after some of the stuff that's happened.  So, it was beat the bushes and try to find a better deal with someone I'd never done business with and see what happens after that, or go with a known entity.

Took the battery out and drained the gas. If I do keep her I guess at least I should unload the NEW King Tour Pak that had never been used. I bought a choped tour pak and run it all of the time.

I still miss my Vrod...actually more than I do the SEUC.  With good suspension under it, that bike was a blast to ride.  If you get the need for speed, those bikes will satisfy quickly and are a fun ride for around town and day rides.  And, IMO, they were one of the best looking SE/CVO bikes ever produced, with the Eagle head and lots and lots of chrome.

I've always had a soft spot for those fat tire '06s.  I agree, they really got those bikes right.  And if it wasn't chrome, it was color-matched powder coat.  There was some nice attention to detail on those hot rods.

And the paint on them is really nice.  With a nice Windvest windshield (the best looking mount, IMO) it kept enough wind off your upper body to make going 120+ fast enjoyable.  It's like driving a wicked assed sports car...LOVE the sound of one wound up in third gear...

Thought you where gonna pull the trigger on one of these lovely ladies AJ!
Just wondering why you haven't.

I ended up doing it, but only because my 11 trashed the rod bearings.
Glad I did, Orange is a Great color as you already know.

I'm likin' it a lot, already!  I think they shoulda named it the "Screamin' Eagle TALL Glide" and man, she sure makes a racket goin' into first, but what a sweet ride!  The 110" has some pretty decent power stock, too.  I swear I feel it loosening up with every mile.  Overall, I'm pretty glad I made the switch and the things I still like better about the SEEG I think can be changed with a few $$$s.

Oh don't worry.  Plenty out there will be happy to take your hard earned $$ to help you try and improve things. there are some things to get used to. My biggest thing is how the new bike sits up higher and seems so smooth. Few mods will improve the motor.  :2vrolijk_21:

That's funny! :D Did you notice when you rode mine that it sat lower than yours. I went with the 940's in the rear which allows it to feel 1" lower (small spring on top compresses when you sit on it) and left preload spacers out on the front monotubes as recommended by Progressive. That drops the front down about 1/2". I noticed difference as soon as I sat on my bike after install. Not worried about floorboards scrubbing and didn't extend my floorboards since I'm using the switch blades and just turn my feet out on them. Love it! :2vrolijk_21:

Well, I went straight from the SEEG to yours, so I was expecting it to be taller than that bike.  Compared to my SEUC, I'm not sure. Let's meet up for some throwed rolls and then I can tell ya for sure. ;)  I am enjoying the ground clearance quite a bit, so I expect I'll get used to the added height over time.  You can sure tell the center of gravity is quite a bit higher on this bad boy, though. :nervous:

Thanks! ;D  The ride on JR's definitely pushed me over the edge and I'm enjoying this bike more every time I ride it.  Coming up on 300 miles and hoping to do a couple hundred more over the weekend.

I may (not sure yet until I try a few of the suggestions in another thread) have a radio/amp that cuts out and the painted switch panel where the ignition, spot, cruise, etc. switches are is making contact with the front of the tank when the bars are turned full left, but those are the only two issues, or potential issues, so far.  The motor feels pretty stout for stock and doesn't seem any noisier or hotter than my 103 was, so I'm pretty happy with that, knowing it will only get better, faster and stronger with pipes and a tune.  Haven't got the cartridge front suspension in yet, so the ride is still pretty crummy, but I'm glad I got to see what it was like stock, first, so I'll have something to compare it to.  At first, I didn't think the air rear suspension was too bad, but I have changed my opinion on that already.  Need Bitubos .... Quick. LOL

Not sure how many dealers are still doing something like this, but this came in the mail the other day and I thought it was pretty cool.  They used to just use a folding cardboard-type display deal that could go on a desktop or shelf, but this new frame has a lot more class and will look good hanging on the wall in my Harley-themed theater!

That little touch that shows the dealer cares, very nice Brian...

I remember after picking up my 05 SEFB we were at the dealer getting the rest of the take off parts that the mechanic had in his tool box and the salesman said wow you didn't get the coffee cup with your picture on it standing next to your bike? (in a joking manor)

Wow I wonder why there out of business now.....LOL

All loaded up for the trip back home.  Spent the last two days in meetings in the town where I bought the bike, so it worked out great to pick it up after the 1,000 mile service and "goodie" installation.  All I gotta do when I get home is put the Bitubos and floorboard extenders on and I think I'll be good to go for awhile. ::)

I took a short 10 mile, or so, ride before loading it up.  Man, the Fullsac setup made a BIG difference.  And so did the cartridge front suspension.  It was funny to feel the front end more or less glide over bumps, only to be immediately followed by the rear suspension crash and clank and otherwise object to the same bump when it was its turn.

More pics and comments later!

Thought I'd post up a few pics of the recently-added mods.  First up, the Bitubo shocks.  What a transformation and a great match to the Harley Double Cartridge front suspension.

Next up, mirrors.  I thought the stock SEUC mirrors were totally style-less.  I didn't see where they were any different from a regular Ultra in shape, maybe except for the stem, but still, not becoming of a CVO.  So, I went with the "Slotted Stem Profile Mirrors."  The slotted stem matches the brake and shifter levers and the short profile adds a bit of attitude.  I like 'em.

Next, is speaker trim, front and rear. ::)

I got a set of the Harley Goodies rider and passenger footboard extenders.  Man, these things put the boards right where I wanted them.  No scraping, so far, either.  Time will tell.  In the last pic, you can also see the JES Custom Accessories oil temp gauge I got.  I posted separately on that here: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=76044.0

Beautiful bike Brian.
I like the adds.
It is so amazing to me that we buy a $40K bike and then we spend another $5K on it.
But as they say, it's only money.
Question, the pic that shows the floorboard extensions shows the oil cooler.
Did you take off the chrome cover or is it just the angle of the pictures?
I assume you have that new tag on order?
I think your going to make JR spend more money on his.

Sharp eye, Chip.  When doing the 1,000-mile service, the tech noticed that one of the grommets the cover presses into on the bottom of the cooler was missing.  He ordered another set, but it took me awhile to find the time to run back down to the dealer and get it taken care of.  Did that this past Saturday, but had taken all the pics beforehand.  When taking the pic of the whole bike, I actually tried to find an angle where you wouldn't be able to tell it was missing.  Forgot about the shot with the floorboard extenders, though! ::)

The new tag ("SEUC") is on order.  Should be here any day.  More pics when it arrives. :)

110tHunDer,

I really like what you have done to your ride.  I must ask who makes the foot board extensions(never seen them before)and is adding the tour pak extension a fairly simple job.

Thanks & God Bless

Thanks fo the compliment.  The footboard extenders are from Harley Goodies.  They're a vendor here, but they haven't participated in some time.  Here is a link to a thread they started: http://www.cvoharley.com/smf/index.php?topic=37688.0

I'ts best to call them, tell them what bike you have and ask for the discount here.  It's too confusing to try and figure out from their outdated website, but the final result is worth a little extra hassle to call.  The parts are well made and even come with chrome hardware.

There are a number of posts on here about the George Andeson tour-pak relocator.  If you do a search, most folks say it's simple, and really, the basic installation is easy and straightforward, but I found going back the full 2 1/2 inches required lengthening the CB antenna and LED brake light wiring on my bike.  I left that to the dealer at the 1,000 mile service.  So, if you don't need the full adjustment, you shouldn't have any trouble at all, just need another set of hands to hold the TP for a few minutes.  99 out of a 100 people don't seem to need anything lengthened to go the rest of the way, but of course, I was the 1 that did. LOL

Congrats on the new scoot! Lots of luck limiting the mods. You might want to check into a 12 step program.

Are 12 steps enough! :nixweiss:

Nice bike, Congrats!

Question,
The tail light on the SERG looks to be the LED one.
The 12 doesn't?

You're gettin' good! ;) :huepfenlol2:

I've got a BAL light on the SERG.  There's not much light back there, so wanted to do something to brighten it up.  The SEUC still has the stock light, but I do have a BAL waiting to go on. :2vrolijk_21:

Stopped by the dealer today to check on my bike and donate to the Toys for Tots benefit.  Perfect timing.  The tech was just finishing up the Wild One 575 install.

The cruise control switch had chit the bed, too, so that was getting replaced, as well.  Took two pair of hands to coax the ignition switch back in. :nixweiss:  That's exactly why I don't jack with this sort of stuff on my own. LOL

They sure look good.  Won't know how they feel for a few more months, though.  Stupid winter! :sauer055:

This guy is pretty good.  Can't even tell he touched the bike.  Everything is as clean as when I took it in there.  And I thought for sure he'd say I was gonna need a clutch and/or a brake line, but he said there was an inch left on both sides before things started getting too tight.  Teeny bit of play in the throttle grip from that "gap" that you and others have talked about with these bars, but nothing major or objectionable.

is that the pin or a decal you used?
Title: Re: Might need a new site handle after this ...

A mere ..... decal? :o  Oh, hell no! :P  It's one of the original pins.  Ground the posts off and slapped some super-thin double-sided tape on it.  Had it on the '04 SEEG in the "V" of the inner fairing between the speedo and tach for many years.  This seemed to be where the SEUC wanted it.

Thought it was the pin, couldn't tell by the picture. Really didn't think you would slap a decal on it

My pin is stuck to my leather vest with  3m double stick

think you'll enjoy the new ride. I love mine. it does handle great. thought my 02 heritage handled good til I got the sg. then I thought the heritage felt like a dinosour. now I feel like the sg is not as well in handling as the seuc. Love those colors. liked that color scheme years ago too, though. Enjoy & BE SAFE. GOD BLESS !
sure wuold like to get one of those pins though. ( actually 2 & maybe couple decals ) nait, can you help some of us new members out. maybe bring them back into production?

I thought that was a good spot for something too, but I went a different route.  The orange in the emblem matches the bike, so it can easily be mistaken that it is cut out and you are seeing through to the paint on the tourpak.
