Title: Need recc. for best gear avail.. - Just back from a accident...
Post by: deaf1 on September 14, 2008, 07:51:08 PM
I am sure this has been asked a zillion times,  but I need opinions.  I am recovering from a bad broadside hit which totalled my softail,  and did a number on my leg...  The gear I had saved my life,  but is shot...

For jackets I have looked at the ones with airbags,  Aerostich (cordura)  and kevlar jackets...  I prefer to stay away from leather as it gets hot here in the summer..  For the regular mesh jackets,  they have a serious problem in that at a high skid speed they actually melt into the skin! :o

Gloves and pants I have no idea on....  I was wearing levi's,  and will never do that again w/o chaps...

Helmut,  I am prob going to stick with a Carbon Fiber 1/2 DOT....

$$$ is not a object,  as I need the best peace of mind I can get when I get back on next summer...

Thx in advance...

It has taken me alot of time to decide to get back on (and a new bike w/ ABS!)

I hope you are ok!!! What happened?

I wont be riding for approx a year after mine... But wanted to get started on researching the best gear.....  Didnt think I would want to ride again,  but I found a 08 SERK for a deal I couldnt pass up.. When I look in the garage it gives me hope!  Wish there was a forum for survivors of wrecks....

Rev'it makes some really good textile jackets...reviews on webikeworld.  It's good stuff.  Jeans with Kevlar in the right places work well.  Gloves...Fox Creek Leather deerskin, designed by Lee Parks.  Seams will not come apart on you in a skid. All their leather stuff is the best I've ever seen.  I wear Cruiserworks boots...Defenders.  WaterPROOF and excellent protection, plus they are comfortable to walk around in after the ride.
