I'm not known for lengthy posts and being overly verbose but I hope you will allow me this transgression because honestly many of you have become good friends and dare I say I would even consider some members here family.

Today is a sad day in the Phato household as we lost my father early this afternoon - no he's not out wandering aimlessly - After a difficult struggle with a myriad of health complications, the man who taught me many life lessons not to mention which end of a wrench was the box end and which was the open end, has passed away. I feel fortunate that myself, most of my siblings and my mom were able to be at his side at the end, one brother who lives in AZ was kept updated via cell phone and that is almost the same as being there considering the circumstances..Dad went rather quickly after he was rushed to the hospital this morning suffering what was initially described by the nursing home staff as respiratory distress and being in an almost comatose state where he was unresponsive to attempts to wake him this morning..Dad leaves behind my mom, four adult children and 12 grandchildren of various ages. He also now joins my youngest brother(god bless you Doug) who passed away in 2009.

I'm a lot like pops with a few notable exceptions he was into Corvettes (we recently just sold his beautiful 2004 C5 with 12,500 miles on it) and I'm into Harley's, one other difference is that when he was younger and much more mobile he loved golf - a game I never embraced. He, like me, was also a smart A** and quick to add some kind jocularity to any situation. I'm sure that at the moment he's got Saint Peter booking him a T time.

Those of you that may be so inclined, please say a quick prayer for Bruce S. Fisher, husband, father and grandpa extraordinaire

Phato, Sorry to hear about your father passing. From what you say he was a great man & played a great part making you the man you are. I recently lost my father & it sounds like they were a lot alike ! We are who we are because of them! Remember all the great times as these memories will be with you forever!

I thank you all for the kind words,thoughts and prayers.

Thinking of the good times brings to mind recollection of the last gathering of the whole crew last summer just prior to dad requiring long term care. The family gathered at my parents home and a great time was had by all especially mom and dad who savored the chance to have all the grandkids visit at the same time.

Bruce, I can truly say "I know what you are going through" as I lost my Dad less than a week ago. There are times I think "I can't make it through this" but then know the reality that we must move on. I don't know if I'm on your list of "not well known, but close friends" but let me say "you are on mine". No matter how tuff the times are, tomorrow will be a new day. Jimmy

Again, thank you all for the thoughts and prayers, they are truly appreciated.

And yes the family is certain that pops in in a much better place now, sometimes it's tough to remember that through the grieving. As Jimmy (2k) stated tomorrow's a new day and we are all taking it one day at a time especially as the "wounds" are still fresh. In time I'm sure the pain will lessen as the memories of all the good times grow stronger.

I just saw this, Bruce. My deepest condolences for the loss of your Dad.

I lost my Dad way back in 1990, and my Mom just a couple of months ago. I learned a lot of what I know about a lot of things from my Dad. I understand how you may feel... It's a huge hole that will never really be filled.

I prefer to remember the happy times I had with my folks, but it took awhile.

Anyway, I hope you're doing OK.

Just saw this post and prayers to you and the family on the loss of your pop. When I read your first post on this thread, I noticed you called your father "pops". Not many do anymore. My pop turns 78 in two days and reading your thread reminded me of the years I've had and the few there are left with him. The Lord be with you and your family during this time of loss, Bruce.

I am sorry for your family's loss! I lots my "Pop" and my best friend two years ago. Today is his birthday! I lost my mom several years ago. You can accept these things as they are a fact a life but it does stay with you. I will say a prayer for your father and your family!

Again thank you all for the thoughts and prayers. And thanks for allowing me to "lean on your shoulders". Typing these responses does make me feel better.

Tonight I went into the basement workshop and I happened to look over at the portable router table I borrowed from pop during my recent kitchen project ... all I could do was smile and say thanks. My hope is that more and more thoughts of him will bring smiles and maybe a little laugh to myself - or out loud, why not, right??
My mom is doing remarkably well, but then we haven't had our service for him yet, that is later this week when my brother arrives from Arizona. Myself and the rest of the family have always been there for the two of them and we'll continue being there now for mom - maybe we'll "be there" to much

and drive mom crazy with our efforts to comfort and care for her.

Bruce, I just saw this post. sorry to be late in responding. I am very sorry for you loss. will definetly be praying for you & your family, for the peace & comfort that only comes thru Jesus Christ. It was a real pleasure to meet you in MV this past year.

Bruce sorry this comes some 3 weeks late. Lost my pops in July. He was into vettes and hogs as well. Please take some comfort in this; I believe where ever our dads our the weather is good and the chrome never needs shined. God bless you and your family
