Jerry, I'm so sorry to to hear of your incident, :( but glad you two are going to be OK :); that's the important part. Someone was watching over you at that moment. Heal quickly, then get the melon back on the road! [smiley=jalapeno.gif]
God bless, and I'll say some prayers for you both.

Jerry, I am glad that J. Carolyn and you are O.K. from your slide down the mountian. I looked at the Melon today and it's kinda bent. I saw the pics on the web and knowing you leaves me with this question. How did you get it back up the hill?

Thanks for posting this thread and letting us know that you two will be O.K.

Thanks also, for sharing your experience with us and reminding us that it doesn't matter how many miles we've put in the saddle or how skilled we may think that we are......sometimes it's outside influences that dictate the outcome.

I didn't, but lots of strong determined friends did.  It was even worst than in the photo I took.  When the bike stopped it was laying on its left side and it was turned 180 degrees to the right from the photo I posted.  They had to literally lift and push it around to the left as shown in the photo.  Then they were able to start the motor and push / drive it in the direction shown in the photo along the side of the embankment and back up onto the road.  I thought we'd have to get a tow truck but they were insistent that they could get it back up.  Not horsepower but lots of manpower got it back up that hill.

Jerry,

I am so glad that you are home and safe. That was quite a hair raising experience. I had the ambulance dispatcher on the phone as I was walking back down the hill and expected to see the worst. I never thought canceling an ambulance would be such an exhilerating experience. Very glad to tell the gal you were ok and we wouldn't need medical help.

I want to apologize for looking at you like you were nuts when you said you wanted to call Harley Roadside Assistance. I knew it was going to get cold that night and did not want to be sitting by the side of the road til midnight waiting on a ramp truck that would have probably not had a winch line long eneough to get your bike up the hill. There were lots of us who were determined to get that thing out of there. ED is now my favorite hillclimb racer. He should have a photo in Wheels Through Time Museum. It was actually quite satisfying getting that son of a bitch up and out of there. And I had a very good time taking a pocket knife to your leather tour pak. God.....we were just glad you and Carolyn were ok. That whole thing could have really sucked.

She is an absolute trooper. My girlfriend would have kicked my ass and walked back to the hotel.

Hope you get the bike back on the road soon and both of you heal up well.

It was nice meeting you.

Same here.  Enjoyed meeting everyone.  Just bummed out that we had to miss so much of the fun.  But, there is always next year.  Can't wait.

Jerry, so sorry about the accident, my friend, but glad that you and J. Carolyn made it through so well!  It was awesome to see you two come riding up after what had happened!  I hate that it had to happen (so close to the end of the twisty stretch, too) and that a watermelon bit the dust, but so what, the main thing is you two are OK!
