Help before I go mad
« on: March 05, 2013, 01:12:26 PM »

I am trying to install the Kuryakyn windshield trim on ,my RGC CVO.  I have tried with no gasket, the CVO gasket with a normal RG gasket. I have tried loose standoffs and tight standoffs?  No matter how i try it i am always off about a 1/4 inch.  I have heard the stories of putting these things on, now i will join the ranks of mad men.

Done screwing with it for the night.  It is about to become a one way boomerang.

Hang in there SmokeyJoe. Are you trying to use either the 1309 or 1370 trim?  Is it possible that when you loosened the two outer screws & grommets on each side that they moved on you?

Tried again this morning before work.  Tried it with the outers so loose i thought they would fall out.  Maybe its the Klock Werks sheild.  If i don't get it soon it's going up for sale.

How close do the Klock Werks holes line up with the original windshield?  You might be fighting a tolerance buildup.... not to make a pun of the buildup of your own tolerance, which it sounds like you are at the end of!

I will have to check that tonight.

By the way how tight do the windshield bolt actually have to be?

I have the same windshield and the HD one was no easier. Try using the stationary bolts in different areas with the cam bolts. After a few switches, you will get it to line up, although it is not easy!

Nice info, never thought of that! However, the problem is not the well nuts, it is getting the chrome "eyebrow" holes to line up with the stock holes after the windshield is on. at least that was my major issue.

I don't have any trim on mine, but I would think you could put the bolts through the trim as well as the winshield. Then use this method but could be totally wrong.

Don't feel bad, I saw a Harley tech struggle with the same thing for good 40 minutes till he figured it out.
