Question For You Glare Experts?
« on: March 26, 2008, 04:28:34 PM »

OK, I got a hair up my ass to polish the bike. It's clean, it's warm enough, and it's gonna rain. So I figure I might as well get it done now.

Question. I have Glare Spider and Glare Micro-Finish. Do I need to use both? The bike has been polished in the past only by dealer or private detail places. Not the best jobs done there. And you know I'm not to motivated to do this very often. What's the best thing I can do to it with these (or any additional) products?

I wanna be free to RIDE, not polish, my machine....! :D :D :D

TIA gang! OK Let me have it! ::) ;D

All b.s. aside, you need to put some elbow grease into the 1st application, Howie, to get the true Glare results.  Follow the directions exactly by applying small amounts and rubbing it completely into the paint until it disappears.  This takes quite a bit of time and effort just to do one scooter.  The 2nd coat is applied and removed as you have always done wax......apply it, and rub it off.  And all future applications are easy also.  But ea. one makes the dark colors look liquid.  My guess is you may actually get into how good the results are and find that it's actually 'worth it' ~  har!  spyder

Howie, Spyder's right on with the application technique, however, you didn't mention having the Professional Polish. :nixweiss:  You want to use that as the second (final) coat that Spyder talks about.  As far as the differences between MF and Spider, MF is a little more aggressive than Spider, but not much.  If the paint is looking the least bit scratchy, you may actually want to use MF first, then Spider, then Prof. Polish.  I flip-flop between using MF and Spider, just depending what mood I'm in . . . . both give good results.  Ken's right, though, in that the longer you leave each coat on, the better the results.  And each application will improve the look, too.  I've done the SERG about 5, maybe 6, times now and each time it comes out looking better and better.  It's absolutely ridiculous how that stuff revives neglected paint! :shocked2:

OK buddy boy. Micro Finish if you have scratches to remove. Spider for swirl marks. Polish is the last step. It all ends with the polish ans begins depending on the quality of the finish.

Is that better than my first reply?

Haven't seen this question before, so here goes:  Is Glare a hand apply only material, or can you use an orbital buffer for application and removal?  I've found that the best way to eliminate fine scratches and swirls is with an orbital buffer and foam pad.  Also makes the entire process much easier on worn out fingers and elbows.

Yes, Jerry, you can use a buffer.  As a matter of fact, I think Glare offers buffer pads, etc.  Of course, nothing like the old fashioned hand in a old T-shirt for application.........some habits are hard to break.  ::) har!  spyder

Oops! I just found a third bottle called Professional Polish. I did the Spider. That was easy to work in. Then I did the Micro-Finish. That was a bitch to work in and get the film off. Then I thought I was done. Came inside to put those 2 away and saw the third bottle! Chit, I guess I have one more step to do. Not today. Getting dark now. Oh well, 2 out of 3 ain't bad. :nixweiss: :D

Jerry, right on about the orbital buffer, and yes, you can apply Glare with one.  That's the way I do the four-wheeled vehicles, but my buffer is too large to work well on the bikes, so I hand apply it on those.  The one caution I'd give you about using it with a buffer is to tape off any black, textured plastic beforehand since you don't have quite the control with it that you do by hand and once the Professional Polish dries on anything made of that material . . . it ain't comin' off! :o :-\  MF comes off no problem, Spider does too with some elbow grease, but NOT the Pro Polish.

You got it a bit backwards there pal. The Micro finish is more abrasive than the Spider. Coarse to fine is Micro finish - Spider - Professional Polish. ;)

Well, I guess it don't matter now, especially if you have to finish it off with the Pro Polish anyway. Dayum, I thought it looked pretty good already! ;D ;D ;D
