Engine cleaning, trying to make old, look new again

I got a ton of bugs and crap on the front jug, as well as some oil and other burnt on stuff. I used brake cleaner, did a pretty good job but still kind of dark sheen. I never used pig snot or any other types that I"ve heard of on this site before. Whats the best? Give me some ideas.

I haven't tried it personally, but other people on the forum swear by oven cleaner...

I hope Brian (Hogasm) checks in as I believe he had a bad experience with oven cleaner on his cases when he had his blowby trying to clean up the mess.

Thats what I'm trying to get off of there, mostly oil. The mixture of oil and brake parts cleaner have left it dingy. I want clean and bright, and no hoses! I dont hose my bike down, too many electrical gremlins later.

When Brian (Hogasm) used oven cleaner (don't know what brand it was) it took the powdercoat off his motor. I'd be scared of using that. :nervous:

I've used the PigSnot product and it left a nice looking final shine.  Though it's always come after a nice normal washing that did include a soapy mit and a garden hose.

WD40 and your wifes tooth brush hehehe no really a tooth brush and WD40 then wash it off with some simple green and softwater then use your wifes hair dryer really on this one just dont let her catcha with it, you can blow it off with a airhose but the hair dryer will build a little heat and not leave any mineral build up on it. Then a light coat of Pigsnot and that baby will look like one shinnie hinnie  :)

I use GUNK engine cleaner. Let it soak for a few minutes on a warm engine, scrub spots where there are stains with aforementioned ole lady's toothbrush  :D and then hose off.

Brian hit a winner there.  Have used the Gunk brand engine cleaner on the powder coat when the front cylinder really ate some big nasty bug between the fins and then cooked it in there.  Gunk and a soft skinny brush worked wonders without diminishing the powder coat at all.
