Had bike in shop for some work and the technician noticed that there was a "roar" coming from the front end while getting ready for test ride. Put bike back on lift and determined that the front bearings needed to be replaced, under warranty. There are presently about 15,000 miles and when finished, technician stated that there has been some "problems" with bearings and that what was installed is the "improved" and most current bearings. The rear bearings were checked and stated to be good. Having to replace the bearings with only 15,000 miles seem awfully short. Have any other folks had this happen? Is there an expected mileage to get from bearings? Know that bearings can go bad but this seems awfully short both in mileage and time. :confused5:

It's been a problem ever since they went with the narrower single row wheel bearings (cost savings), back in 2008. Wheel bearing failures are very rare on most other vehicles these days (I've never had one on any of my many four wheeled vehicles in the past 50 years, or on any of my Japanese bikes), but Harley seems to constantly find ways to break stuff that doesn't break for anyone else.

on my 16 SERGU the front brake was shaking when applied at highway speeds, took it in thinking i had a rotor issue and HD said i had bad wheel brg.s. they changed them out and all is good. that was done at 9k miles... :nixweiss:

havenolife, checked the repair order and the part numbers listed are 9252A (bearing, roll elem, abs wheel) and 9276B (bearing, roll elem, non-abs). Guess that "A" indicates a revised part? Hope that this helps you.
