Title: Handlebars RK cvo '14
Post by: grofcvo on October 24, 2013, 07:07:44 PM
Don't know if this is the right place for this topic, but I don't like stock handlebars on my RK cvo. They are very low and grips are some how positioned so when I hold bars looks like my hands are twisted outside, very awkward position. Want to change this ASAP did anyone change their bars and what you went with. thx as always, Grof

Just dropped off Wild Ones 502 to have them powder coated shinny black to match. I hope they fit as I have the same problem The bars are too narrow and the grip angle is way wrong unless you are only 10 inches wide.         Billy Should be done by mid Nov. I will try to post pictures.

I don't like any stock bars , they are not comfortable at all, customizing is a part of the the game. :)

I think I am going with Buky Bars 14" or 16" Malo 2s on my 14 SERG.   Got rough quotes for $760 labor and ~$400 for cables/wires.   I'll buy the bar once I decide on one and get the ball rolling.

I know it's not a RG but I have the 12" Yafee's on my SG. I'm 5'-8", 145 lbs. and they are perfect.

Just wanted to post a picture. You'll just have to imagine the look without a fairing.

They call them 12" bars but they are closer to 13 1/2" tall. Very comfortable for a 5'-8" tall skinny guy like me. I was a little worried when I was installing them but was surprised at the comfort.

When you look up new bars in the HD catalogue They all say for  up to 2013 they do not include the 14 model year. Is there a reason they won't fit. I just ordered Wild one 502 and they said they will fit the 14 model .      Thanks Billy

Just wanted to say hello, new mem.(1st post) also this is my 1st HD.  I bought the the Orange cvo.  have been debating on what color bars you all would recommend? chrome? black?  I'm going with todd cycles 17", had the opportunity to mock up some PY's oem (16") I found them too wide at the cross bar, slightly went past the cover.  The todds were nicer in my opinion. I just can't decide on color
 :)
here are the Todds  these are from today    that's my Bro who works for HD

Thanks for posting those pics.  The BR Customs bars I ordered will look very similar to those.  I ordered them in black since that would match the crash bar and black hand controls.

your welcome,  I plan on removing the crash bar, but maybe accent the controls with new res. lids and maybe some mirrors
to keep it even, I'm getting 50/50 which scheme to go with.  :-\

I think chrome is better... I consider it for my bike and chrome match well with the front ( fork and wheek )
and it's more... shinny  :bananarock:

I still can't believe that someone needs 3 moths to build a handlebar.

smart move,
I just dropped of my bike today at the dealership. should be done by the end of the week if not next week, they seem pretty busy.
also getting ready to order my exhaust from D&D but they are a 2 weeks out on them. I hate playing the waiting game.

Waited 9 weeks in spring of 12 for the 14" Yaffe Monkey bars in black for my 12 SERG.  Love the bars, have 25K miles on them.  First week in December I will be ordering the same bar, but Chrome for my 13 SERK.  Worth the wait in my opinion.

They feel great and seemed worth the wait.

After long search couldn't find no one to make me bars with 1 1/4 clamp , talked to so many manufacturers and I didn't want to change risers to 1'' clamp. Called BR's custom bars and talked to Bill for couple minute and done deal he will make me bars 1 1/4" BEATERS WITH DROP TOP in 14'' they should be here in couple weeks.

The first mod to any Road King has to be new bars, the stock bars are and always have been junk!

If HD would just put Heritage bars on the Road King the problem would be solved. I don't get it. :nixweiss:

Well the 12 week wait for my 14" Paul Yaffee Monkey Bars started Monday.  Plan on doing the heated grips when the bars come in, using the grips that are stock on the 13 CVO Ultra as they are a match for my 13 CVO King floor boards and grips.  GPS will also be run thru the bars like was done on my 12 CVO Road Glide

I noticed that also. Bike looks great that way but a risky move. Hope you don't loose your footing
at a stop light.  :nervous:
My CVO road glide and CVO road king are the only two bikes I have ever kept engine guards on.  If my CVO King did not have lowers with speakers, the engine guard would be gone.  My 03 fatboy has a 21 wheel up front and a stretched road king front fender, never had guards on it.

Those are 16" BRs and the windshield is the "standard height" from a used Road king.   Thanks!   I love the bike and the color.

Stock cables fit fine. Plenty of length tucked away in the nacelle. The wiring was extremely difficult to run through the new bars but was long enough.

Hey Blownbullit I have the same bike wondering is the mounting area 1 1/4 or 1 inch on the stock bikes. Did you have to put new risers on or were you able to use the stock riser/clamp?

if you order the fatbob version you don't have to change out risers, those are 1 1/4 all they way thru. mine are the 17" version

Thanks HRider. The fact with you could use your stock cables with the 10inch bars caught my eye. Save some $$ your 17's may be a little tall for me. Thanks for the info.

Gents,

Just ordered Wild Ones 515 (10" apes) for my 2014 CVO Road King. Read some great reviews. Will post reviews and pictures when I get them. I am tired of the fit of the stock bars...wrists bent at a weird angle.

I will let you know for sure and post pictures. When the bars come in, they will install them on the bike and see what else they need to order. I think you can use most of the existing wires and/or lines. Might take a week or two before they are done...

That was ordered with the bars. Thank you Tiger. I see that you did your homework. It is only a $60.00 part but you do need it. Has to be ordered from Wild one. My dealer wanted me to change the CVO riser to the non CVO riser but I told them no (in case I or someone else wants to change back to the original bars.

Done!

No changes on throttle and brake cables but wiring had to be extended (plus I added Harley LED mirrors. Bars feel great. Low speed turns (parking lots or u turns) now a breeze!
Around $600 of labor + bars and mirrors.
Chrome looks great with chrome passing lights.

You will need the CVO riser adapter from Wild Ones. If I remember correctly is only about $60.00 or less. I believe it is easy to find on their web site. It basically wraps around the section of the bars that fits in the clamp.

Did you take in consideration any other brand, did you look at width of bars (usually they are 38'' 39'' ) and this is perfect to hit car or SUV mirrors (don't ask how I know).
There is couple Co. that make bars 11/4 so you don't need risers, and you can order width you want, (I went with 34'' so no more hitting cars mirrors), here is some BR's , Vindicta, Binford, etc you got custom look and order what you want not just bars from shelf that a lot ppl have ... just my 2 cents...
