Primary cover help
« on: February 28, 2020, 11:23:11 PM »

Well I made a mistake tonight while changing out my primary fluid. I had trouble getting the bolts out because it had blue loctite on it. So I ran a tap in the holes to clear the loctite out. Well I wasn’t paying attention well enough and I broke a hole through the backside of the Derby cover. Any chance it’s fixable or just have to replace it?

JB Weld should fix it.  Fixed my 1st 110's faulty casting!

Would help to see the damage (Photo), Have you broke off a chunk, is the inner primary chrome or black textured, if its chrome then any repair would need it to be rechromed to look any good, so not really worth it, if on the other hand its a black or granite textured finish, you could use a good heavy duty temp resisitant epoxy type glue (Araldite etc) then get of the Harley texture finish to make it look OK. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply. I’m considering the jb weld. I’m trying Teflon paste first to see if that works. Also considering silicone. Hope this works

On the derby cover no big deal.  Put teflon paste on the screw.

Just a quick update. I applied Teflon paste to the screw. Since then i have put about 850 miles on it and no leak so far. Thanks again to everyone who helped.
