Title: Rockford Fosgate for Harley Davidson
Post by: ohd24 on June 26, 2022, 09:52:38 PM
Upgraded to stage two speakers and harness and dongle. I have more information and knowledge than any Harley employee I have talked with in the past three months. Just ask questions ??

THAT is the “new normal”! LOL

I have been with my local dealership since 1966 and have seen the changes over the years.
Some good, some not so good.
Our dealership has gone through some radical changes in the past 10 years or so. From a owner/operator, to a mega corporate takeover with many “power sport” stores across the country with HD just a small niche in the portfolio!

Customer service has suffered. It’s still there if you complain enough.
Expertise with some of the now-complicated systems is rare as there are not enough techs to cover everything.
Most dealerships rely on HD to get them answers to customers problems. Communication via dealership to factory and back to customer is slow to non-existent.

Finding that one tech that has experience in the category you are working on can be a challenge but they are out there!
I have a few people I rely on who are experts in their fields. Some live pretty far from my local dealer!

While many (many many many) have experienced the dearth of support/experience that has been the evolutionary decline in too many dealerships for a generation the Rockford Fosgate radio is not a Harley product and it is, therefore, not dealership staff's responsibility to know or support it.

Thanks for offering to help those that are confused. Are you happy with your upgrade? Would you do it again?

I have to disagree with you.  It is on HD's website as a dealer installed accy. authorized by HD.  Why would it not be the dealership's responsibility to have product knowledge and service when you paid them for the product and to install it?

I have not been in a dealership in a long time and don't plan on it anytime soon but, I thought the newer CVO's had a Rockford-Fosgate system.  Am I wrong on that?

Ah, c'mon, you don't "have" to!  :huepfenlol2:

And..... this might or might not be a distinction with (or without) a difference.  When the original poster wrote that he'd upgraded I then considered the aftermarket Rockford Fosgate systems intended for the motorcycle market (at the link below).  That system I might be appreciative of a dealer having some insight on (especially if they were selling it over the counter) but I would not expect them to.

Rockford Fosgate speakers and amps are what is on the newer CVO's I believe 2021 was first year.  Its also available in the P&A catalog as an upgrade.  So I feel Harley techs should know how to perform the upgrade.

Agreed, on those new OE systems.  Still wouldn't expect them to know squat about the aftermarket retrofit replacements for the older stuff.

Fully agree.  I was just talking the Bikes that come with it.  And Harley's kits to upgrade to the Rockford Fosgate.

2007 Ultra Classic CVO and got the PMX-HD9813.  Looked like a plug and play but when I hooked it up, it powered up but had no sound.  Nothing on FM or through my phone will come through the speakers.  Any suggestions?

Does it need to be flashed at the dealership?

It shouldn't. It's a plug and play head unit. Prerushmore bikes doesn't need it done. They '12 I bought two years ago has that head unit in it.

The Rockford radio does not work with a cvo bikes. It has to do with the amps Harley used on them. It is stated right on the Rockford site that it does not work with factory Harley amps. I believe the only way you will get it to work is by removing your factory amps.

Dealerships are responsible. This is a HARLEY product. The radio doesn't need to be flashed. It is all done thru the app on phone.

Help everyone out here and say what year bike is in question.  For very new models vs models a few years older what you just said varies.
