Doing a quick pre-fight this morning and noticed the passenger backrest was loose on the left side. Checked a little further and determined the mounting bracket had failed. I took it to the dealer, lo-and-behold there is a Service Bulletin out on it! I didn't get a look at the bulletin, but they had the repair kit there and fixed it for me on the spot.
Thought I'd give you all a heads up, because you know 1abastarsmda's is going to break pretty soon and he's going to be a mad sumbitch!!

I can handle Dave being mad (that's fun and entertaining), it's that 35,000 word dissertation as to why it hasn't happened to him and what will possibly go wrong with his bike when he takes it back to the dealer, , , , that I don't look forward to!
Be afraid, be very afraid, Dave will be here eventually.

200 miles on my bike when I found the same thing. Dealer replaced it.

Has anyone had the brackets for the passanger back rest break on their 2009 SEUC?
-
I'll call my dealer. Who was your dealer just in case mine gives me some crap?
-
See the recent thread below.............. I hope my 2009 doesn't have this problem. I will ask them to "run" service bulletins when I take it in for the 5,000 mile service in a couple of weeks.

My dealer just called and said they were sending me a new backrest. He did not know of any parts to fix the broken bracket.

I guess it's his business how he wants to fix it, but if you want to help him out, the Tech Tip is TT-407. Part number for the repair kit is 52192-86A.

Yes, I finally found my way to this one. Fourstar, thanks for the heads up on the problem. I'll have the dealer check it out during my 15,000 mile service.

I picked up the bike from the dealer - all isolators replaced under warranty (2 of the 3 had broke)

Crap mine are broke, and I am out of warranty of course....(friggin expensive piece of crap...lol) One would think that Harley would have built this with a better design. I could think of at ;east 3 off the top of my head. Hey how is 1apastarsmda?

:nixweiss: :nixweiss: :nixweiss: I got a kick out of reading back through this. But I think Chip exaggerated a bit. My rants have never exceeded 10,000 words. I sure am glad I traded for a new bike before that bracket broke. :coolblue:

Since this was a known defect that Harley acknowledged in that bulletin, the fact you are now out of warranty shouldn't mean you are stuck. Call them and let them know you have the problem described in Tech Tip 407 and you would like them to repair or replace your broken bracket.
Nothing ventured, nothing gained.
