Title: 12 volt fridge
Post by: Tonka67 on August 15, 2023, 03:01:15 AM
G'day,

Just wondering if anyone has had any success in adding a 12-volt fridge to their top box or panniers.

Cheers Tonka

I'm old.  I know it. Not necessarily pleased with the idea.  But I know that it has happened.  This does mean, however, that there is less and less new-to-me sh*t I see or get asked about.  Except for now.  A fridge on my motorcycle was a new-to-me idea.   :drink:

Back in the days of the could-barely-keep 32 amp or smaller charging systems don't think this would have stood a chance.  Now with the 50 amp or more three phase system that have a little room to spare a small 12v fridge could be accommodated.  Pretty sure they only draw five or six amps.

I'm all in on this idea now though.  Go big or go home.  Pull behind trailer hauling a generator and a low profile (it's all about the aerodynamics) chest type fridge cooler.  I'm sure the generator's own fuel tank could last as long as I do between pee stops.  So it becomes an almost perpetual motion cooling machine with regular fuel stops.  Of course the fuel stops have coolers of their own filled with cold beverages that I can already access every couple hours.  But to hell with that.  Road mobile cooling; yeah.

Or.... could go to Amazon and search by something like: Adventure 12v small refrigerator

There will be options.

At present I own 4 Engel fridges of varying sizes, but none that would fit in the top box.

Just wondering if anyone had found anything that suited.

Google and Amazon make almost anything possible these days...

I've been using the Igloo 12v Iceless in my truck and car for a few years.  But they have to be vented so not practical in a trailer or in a tour pack.  This is what I've been using....                                                                                                                                                                             https://www.amazon.com/Igloo-40369-Iceless-Thermoelectric-28-Quart/dp/B007ZYH4BM/ref=sr_1_2_pp?hvadid=590006859302&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=1013406&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=e&hvrand=14028132830453329060&hvtargid=kwd-52539273211&hydadcr=9441_13552949&keywords=igloo%2Biceless%2Bthermoelectric%2Bcooler&qid=1692136817&sr=8-2&th=1
