No title question

Wrongway:
Looking at an older Turbo2 and the seller got it from a friend, that has passed, and is now selling with "bill of sale" only. He states that the trailer appears to have never been titled with no holes drilled for license plate, also that there is no evidence of a V.I.N. or serial number. Does any of this pass the knowledge test of the experts here? Asking price is $700.00, too good to be true?

Grizzly:
I've had a utility trailer (to pull behind my truck) that has done  me very well for over 30 years.  It had no serial number to quote when I went to register and license it, so in that spot it simply says "Home Built" on the ownership.  Not sure how licensing works there, but here in Ontario trailers only need to be registered once with no annual sticker to be purchased.

Looks like a great deal for $700.

JCZ:
Trailer is only registered once here in Calif.

On Bushtec the VIN is printed on a label that's somewhere on the tongue.  If nothing else Dave, you should be able to register it as "special construction" like we used to do with motorcycles back in the old days.

Chains:
As JC stated Bushtec prints their label for the vin number.  Older models like the one shown would have the label to the left of the latch and would be visible when lid is open. However if it has ever been repainted the label typically gets removed by the painter.

Lack of holes for tags does not mean it's never been titled many states do not require tags for small trailers. I have never ran a tag on any of my Bushtecs and never had an issue. I also have never put the title in my name if it came with one.

If you must run a tag in your state I would engrave a serial number on the tongue under the cooler rack and go home built.

Chains:
Another thing to remember on the older trailers is the wheel width and tire size is no longer made nor are the shocks if a problem arises. Lou, Grandpa Doc is the go to guy on the 1980 model trailers.
