Title: Low mileage service question
Post by: roadrunner on December 01, 2023, 10:01:41 AM
Hello All,

Got a question regarding low mileage service.

I the past couple of years I haven't been riding much and my last dealer service was 20K in 2020.

Dealer replaced lifters and I do every other service myself and oil yearly and that was almost 4 years ago.

Currently at 22K, I need to have service on my front brakes and while at the dealer want to add any other service suggested.

What would you all recommend, primary and trans, they were done in 2020?

Should the rear caliper be checked since the fronts are leaking?

Fork oil is recommended at 50K not sure of time interval.

Thanks!

I'd have the brake fluid flushed/filled with ABS activation (using DT, should be done every two calendar years ).

IMO, fluid answer depends on how the bike was stored.  If it was climate controlled, I wouldn't bother changing it.  If the bike was subject to temperature changes and excessive humidity, I'd change it.  I wouldn't mess with the rear caliper if it isn't broke, nor the fork fluid.

Wise call on replacing the lifters.  On these bikes it's a regular service item like oil filters.

Thanks for the comment on lifter replacement!

Dealer found a CVO caliper!

Cheers!

It is absolutely insane for that to be the practice with something as expensive as lifters. My current set has over 140,000 on them. Couldn't imagine the cost of buying lifters every time I needed an oil change. One of the reasons I am not a fan of the 110".

My 09 CVO RG had lifter failure at 47K miles, a week after I traded it in.  My 15 CVO RGU had lifter failure at 44K miles on the day after 2 year warranty expired.  H-D replaced the motor.  The 110 is prone to lifter failure.  I have two friends that have experienced it also.

I know of two M8's with lifter failure, one stock and mine which was built and had 46K on the build.
