Is the enricher on a CV carb like a choke ?

It functions differently, but it's used for the same purpose.  A choke is normally a butterfly type plate that "chokes" off the air flow and thus richens the mixture.  The enrichener valve just adds extra fuel without cutting down the air flow.

Also be careful about leaving the enrichner open/engaged long to avoid fouling plugs.

The enricher opens a port to the fuel bowl on the manifold side of the carb it will not work effectively if the throttle is opened at all since it needs the hi vacuum of a closed throttle plate or slide to draw fuel from the float bowl.

It might not work effectively, but it will surely foul your plugs while running with a open throttle if it is not closed off either automatically or manually.  Don't ask me how I know this to be a fact.  :-[ har!  spyder

He speaketh the truth, i left my idling a little too long one day, fouled the heck out of the plugs to the point it wouldnt even turn over..
lesson learned, use it just enough to get a decent idle going to warm up then push it in..  (i'll always keep a spare set of plugs handy!)
