Title: Looking to upgrade stock speakers on 05 SEEG
Post by: TravRMK on May 18, 2015, 01:27:23 PM
I have been looking at getting some better sound out of my factory system.  Most of the speaker, and sound kits say they are not compatible with CVO and Screamin' Eagle models.  Most of the Harley kits I have seen are 2 ohm, and my manual says I have a 120 watt amplified 4 ohm system.  What speakers, or kits have you ran with success?

In '07 I got some direct replacement speakers from J&M they were $99. Still jammin' today...

I have Hog Tunes in mine.  Also added the Tweeter Pod.  Sounds great.

so what size (wattage) speakers did you use? I have the same 05 and have been looking at the Hertz HCX165.4 which it says are 200w max or the Focal PC 165 which are rated at 160w max, 80w nominal. would either of these match up ok with the stock HU?

thanks

hey folks, I should add that all I want to try for the moment are a new set of fairing speakers. Read good stuff on these 2 and can get them local which when you live in the middle of no where is a bonus.

On my 04 SEEG the Hog Pod tweeters made a big difference.  :2vrolijk_21:

lol, ya not so much on the highs anymore. My problem is that my fairing speakers are blown so I am not hearing much at all these days and well, i do like my tunes. I was hoping I could just pick up speakers and throw them in running off the stock radio city amp mostly cause I aint to techy   :nixweiss: but if someone has an idiot proof setup I would be game to try that.

Hog Tunes are a direct replacement for the stock speakers for your SEEG - they just sound a whole lot better.

An alternative very much worth consideration if just doing a fairing mounted speaker swap is the Polk Audio MM521.  Had used the better grade HawgWired and Hogtunes and others.  The HawgWired sounded as good as anything that wasn't more expensive than I was willing to pay for audio on a bike but had two sets fail in 3.5 years.

Then from the recommendation of another member here tried the MM521.  A nice marine grade component speaker set.  Louder and clearer than the others I'd used and, importantly, much lighter than all the others.  Less weight mounted in the fairing.  A relatively inexpensive but still good option that might be worth your consideration.

I ran the Hog tunes system, lower speakers and amp 140W, the rear speakers and hog tunes amp another 140w then the original amp 160w the hog tunes tweeter pod and hog tunes speaker in the fairing the sound is better and it does have more volume but it's really not that good, if I had to do it again I would use the focal speakers and Arc amps contact http://soundzcustomz.com/ as their systems costs less than what I paid for the Hog tunes and sounds way better I had a listen to it at Sturgis.... Wow now that is clean sound.

I, like Twolane, used the upper end Hawg Wired in my SEEG and they sounded great, but they are heavy and I had one failure, which they took care of with no problem. I kept those same speakers and put them in my SERG in '09 and although bike is gone the guy who has it now is still using them, I did add the Hawg Wired grill mounted tweeters later to the SERG and a Hawg Wired amp. Drove the speakers off the amp and the tweeters off the factory radio speaker wires and it sounded amazing, to my old ears. Once again the guy who has it now brags on it all the time.
Bought the stuff from Jim on the sight here. Amp was a recon and saved a few bucks and worked fine. And one more thing, the Hawg Wired stuff as far as fitment/wiring/instructions etc was top-notch. I have a buddy who is micro electrician and he was very impressed with the Hawg Wired stuff as well.

I went with the hawgwired speakers and 300 watt amp. Love them. It will almost hurt your ears with a good CD in the player going down the road at 70mph.

Hey guys, thanks for all the suggestions. I ended up calling soundzcustomz its all just too confusing to me. They give me some Focal speaker choices and I went with the ones available in town which were the ISC165's. They also told me to go with either the Focal or Memphis amp as they said the Arc would not fit, or be hard to fit in the fairing with the big ass head unit. So I went with the Focal FD 2.350. So now that I have everything I could sure use a link to some idiot proof instructions on how to make it all come together  :confused5:
