2008 FXSTSSE2 Slip ons
« on: October 04, 2008, 05:39:41 PM »

I like the looks of the stock pipes on the 08 springer, so I do not want to change the entire system... I just want to go with slip ons... Has anybody else done this?... What mufflers did you get?... Are you happy with the sound?... Did you use the big stock heat shields on your new mufflers to keep the stock look?... Thanks...

PLEASE post photos!

i changed my entire pipes but there are many who choose the Rush slipons on they rave about the sound.  you will need to choose between 1.75", 2", or 2.25".  they get louder the bigger you go and there is video on their website so you can listen.  i have never heard them, people told me they could hear me coming from far off with the stock pipes but i found them very quiet. my flush mount rineharts are loud but sweet sounding.

I originally had the Rush slip-on's on my '07.

I bought the Slash down style because they looked almost exactly like the stock mufflers. I had the 2.25" baffles, the sound was very deep and about as loud as a set of V&H big shot staggard pipes.

I put the Rinehart Cross-back exhaust on since then and it's a little louder than the Rush mufflers but just as deep sounding! The rinehart exhaust comes with two sets of baffles, I put the larger 2.25" baffles in them! :2vrolijk_21:

I have the Rush slip-ons and I like the sound. I did not use the heat shields on the muffs but did use them on the pipes. I will post some picks for ya today.

Here's another shot. I need to move the mounting bolt/nut out of sight. That looks bad.

Sure look pretty - I got the SuperTrapp cans on mine (slip-ons) for having only one ear left and not interested in overly load pipes that is  :P
On the other hand - they perform quite amazingly - low-& midrange torque impressively better than stock cans.

BTW , Elky - can you share some details on the Le Pera solo seat ? This one looks to fit much (ah say much much ) better around the upper framework than my Corbin Hollywood (which I threw back over the counter in my stealers face - other story though). Exact model and how you latch it onto the rear-fenfer are of mucho interest to me.

Thanks ahead

I am not sure of the exact model. I think it is a bare bones LePera. I bought it used for $100.00. I tried it to check the fit first and it fits like a glove. The original seat hardware (where the rear bolt is) will come out of your fender. There are more holes under your seat for mounting different seats. I removed the black plug from one of the holes and moved the rear mount to that hole. I then reinstalled the black plug in the rear hole on the fender. I can post pics if you cannot figure it out. This thread has been  :jack:

There is the LePera sticker which I assume to be on all their seats. There is also a small white sticker with LK007 on it. I don't know if that is their model number or an after market company's number.

It is better in my opinion. It is not a touring seat but it feels better to my a$$. :2vrolijk_21:

I am not sure what type of pic you want Amarillo. I have posted several in this thread. Let me know exactly what you want and I will take one for ya.

I  have the Rush slip ons with the 2.25 baffles.  I am really happy.  I am noticing a pretty loud pop on deceleration, however, and am going to have the race tuner put on and have it dyno'd.  It runs well and I love the sound.  Looks just like the original set up.

I had the same 2.25 Rush slip ons on my 09 springer and the bike popped on 0 throttle decel going down hills, too. I tried many things, including tuning the bike with special emphasis on the VE tables at 0-2% throttle at low to mid rpm ranges. In the end, although I made significant progress, I never was able to eliminate the back firing completely. I put on new drag exhaust pipes (Rinehart), eliminated the cross flow system. That eliminated the problem for me. I personally believe a very small air leak exhisted in the exhaust someplace, which is known to cause popping, probably at the slip on location.

Thanks.  I will run this by the guys at the service department, or this other mechanic that works on a lot of my friend's bikes.  It is sort of embarrassing.  I like the rumble, but not the pop, pop, pop.
