Welcome to the site.  You might want to go here New Member Introduction and introduce yourself.  As far as what to look for, if this is a private sale, make sure it has had product enhancement 0906 done on it.  If it's a dealer sale, it's probably been done, but verify.  It's by VIN.

Poobala, welcome to the CVO site from west Tennessee.  As with most other vehicles, I would give her a good going over visually, maybe cut open the oil filter and inspect it, verify that the "product enhancement" has been performed and you might look for any peeling of the powdercoat on the engine cases & tranny.  Give it a good hour or two test ride to make sure its the model you want and then work your best deal buying it.  Someone once told me that the definition of a good deal is when both parties feel like they screwed the other guy just alittle. Good luck and enjoy the ride!

peeling of the powdercoat on the engine cases & tranny, that applies to the 08!
the 07 has a bare aluminum engine block, as has been written above, the 07 requires a product improvement campain 0906, which is new head gaskets, lower orings, crank case bolt etc. So check if this has been done, the dealer can enter the VIN into there computer abd cab tell u if and when this was carried out. Obviously make a thorough visual check of the bike and its service history, also as suggested take a long test ride. Best of luck!

springers rule!  I have a blue 07.

Well I am in Calgary, Alberta, Canada so no test rides, it's at a Harley shop in Ontario so I can't even do a visual, it is the one I want and being that they are scarce its hard to dictate all things. My big concern is the oil leak, head gasket scenario, is it on all 110's or was it a hit miss, being I am from a cooler climate would that be a factor, is it the heat that causes the early failure ?  I am trying to rationalize buying a bike that has know defects. Sometimes the internet blows these things out of proportion but if the info is out there I want to do my due diligence. Does the upgrade fix the problem ? I see a law firm advertising on the net saying it doesn't remedy the situation and they are prepared to take legal action on behalf of the consumer. Lots of Drama for my first bike, wish I didn't like the way it looked so I could move on.I do like the 09 as well but the sticker shock was too extreme. Thanks for your knowledge and help. :huepfenjump3:

Hey poobala,  I potentially welcomed you in the welcome thread.  The oil leak, head gasket scenario is real but HD should have done the upgrade on the bike.  Recommend you negotiate the extended warranty!!  You mention the 09 and sticker shock...  that's negotiable too.  HD is hurting big time!  Take advantage!

Good luck!

I believe the '07's have silver powder coat on the cases and cylinders, not bare aluminum.. ;)

Just my 2 cents, I would follow all the suggestions especially making sure the 0906 campaign was done and being that it's at a HD dealer I'm sure it was because that's basicly free service work to that dealer. Also and for what it's worth when I had my 0906 campaign work done it was not leaking at the time, to say in time it would have who know's. I will say this I love my bike it performs to my expectations and I always get a ton of complements wherever I take it. Good luck with your decision and welcome to the wonderful world of HD.
