New Danny Gray seat for 2009 FXSTSSE3
« on: October 27, 2011, 12:08:12 AM »

Just got my new seat from Danny Gray on the 09 SESS3.  Northwest weather and Navy Duty has prevented a real test ride so far this week but I am hoping to get a few hours in the new saddle this weekend.  To dark to take pics in the garage when I get home from work but I will post some soon.  They have been making seats for the 09 all year but didn't have them very well advertised.  Came across this pic on accident while surfing google and called Sherry to place the order.  Don't know about you all but I can only go a few hours on the stock seat and the so called Sundowner was a dud.  They make a few different styles and prices start around $360.  I had to get the 2 up XL to keep the "Ol Lady" happy but I am pleased with the way it looks on the bike.

I have already purchased both the solo seat and the 2up seat. Both seats look awsome on this bike. I also bought the 2 up because my wife did not like the stock seat. If you get the 2 up make sure you send them your backrest so it will match the grains in the materials of your new seat.  I went with blue stitching and blue Aligator with stitch pattern #23 on my 2up. Sherry with Danny Gray Seats is great to work with, she was always prompt on e-mails and she called me a couple of times to confirm some special requests that I had.

I was going to send my back rest to have it recovered but I am not sure that the wide cushion I have is the one I want to spend the money on.  Doesn't  really mater because every time the backrest is on I have my SAC bag slipped over it anyway.  I am thinking some day I may make a custom tall wide sissybar and spiderweb rack then get it chromed and make a better looking mad to fit and have Danny Gray match it as best as they can.

Rode 30 miles on it today and was comfortable the whole time.  Unfortunately I don't think I will get to put any real miles on the seat until Next May.

The day after I got my 2up we left for the Oklahoma HOG rally. We did 600 miles, 300 in one day. The seat never bit my butt. The wife loves it.

Great looking seat!

Angry Pirate,

What apes do you have on the bike?  They're clean; I like it.

Those are 14" fat (1 1/4") Springer Apes from http://www.hillcountrycustomcycles.com/ I called to place my order and got a really good deal.  They came in a package deal with lines, cables, pre-wired, and chrome switches.  I think the deal cost around $500.  no guess work at all.  Had to buy the "pins" from HD to wire into the stock connector $6 and shims to match the stock risers with the knurled portion of the bars (1").

Thanks
