When we went to the Nelson get together we looked into this situation. We were informed by our insurance company to get a card from them declaring that we were going into Canada. They also informed us to get 2 pre paid credit cards and keep one on the bike and one on my person, keep personal cash to a minimum of $250

I'm taking a 3-4 wk trip to Alaska next summer. While I will have a couple of credit cards, I feel more comfortable with cash. But if I take $2-3K cash and don't want it all in my pocket, where can I hide it in/on the bike where it will be safe.  Let's hear your suggestions.  (I have a Road Glide)

I keep mine in my front pocket opposite from the .380 Ruger. If i get robbed, I plan on dropping the wad in an act of nervousness and putting all 8 in the robbers temple then pulling out my "throw down knife" from behind the 9MM in my saddle bag!  :P

Some considerations....

You can tie wrap/aircraft clamp or somehow afix one of the small aluminum tube "stash holders" in the battery compartment area...would have to take the seat off to get to it which makes it totally out of sight/out of mind.  Or depending on your configuration...can do the same inside the horn cover or in the air cleaner....or be inventive and simply mount under the bike on a frame rail.  Just don't forget it there before having service performed on the bike...otherwise could give new meaning to the "stealer".

Can also do an Amazon or ebay search for the fake cigarette lighters or fake batteries (AA or C/D cell) ...basically hollow shells that look like the real thing.

Also can use the spare magazine for your conceal carry/LCP .380 (you should always carry an extra anyway)....slip the end cap off the bottom/stuff the money in (before the spring flies out)...put the cap back on and stuff two or three defense rounds on top.....voila'!

Probably the one that makes the most economic and safest sense...
Pull seat/pull battery/cash goes in a baggie/baggie goes under battery/reinstall battery/reinstall seat....use credit card for everything and perform said pull sequence only when major cash is needed.

In this day there's no reason to carry that much cash.  Credit cards are accepted almost everywhere so it's not necessary.

If you do want to carry cash get a money belt.  REI makes a nice nylon web one with a zipper on the inside.  I wore one for three weeks in Europe and it worked great.  I had a lot of Euros in there as cash is still preferable to credit cards in Europe.

Where do you hide your cash?

In my wife's purse.  There, at least I'm honest about it.

I wouldn't have the faintest idea what it's like to have a hundred bucks in my pocket, let alone thousands! ... I''m glad my winter vacation is over and I'm back to work so maybe pretty soon I can warm my pocket with a twenty at least. :)

I always carry my cash in my front pocket, when traveling I will keep it with my passport and will never tell where I keep that. Of course the best method and safest way is to keep your cash on hand to a minimum and the rest in the bank.

One recommendation when traveling as a group.  Bring an extra key and give it to a partner.  we were touring Colorado one year, friend lost his key around dinner time.  Got lucky, he called his wife and she sent 2nd key overnight express.  Only slowed us down until 1pm or wasted about 4hrs.  Of course he was the ONLY guy that didn't have his 2nd key.  We razzed him the rest of the week, kept track of his only key.  Topic was cash?  it's called a debit card, limited cash in my pocket.

Money belt for foldable cash, ankle wallet if I have my boots on, front pocket for a small amount of cash and a credit card. Funny thing, last month I was getting rid of some clothes that "shrunk in the closet" and ran across one of my money belts rolled up inside a shoe. It still had 3 Franklins in it and 2000 Rand from South Africa, been in there since 2007. I had forgotten all about it so I just left it in place, going back to RSA this year and I already have a stash!
