Heading to the second floor we find that this area has not been restored.

Originally designed to hold 250 people, it became overcrowded in the 1950s with 2,400 patients.

Patients would sit in their rooms looking directly out the window

But angle them and they have a different view, bars.  Staff were instructed to place them direct and not see the bars.

A fire door was installed after they had a fire

These faces were placed outside in a number of places on the building.

The original nine patients when they opened were women.  Men could drop of their wives here and they could not be released unless the husband came back to have them released.  Same holds true for physicians and patients.  No questions asked.

Due to overcrowding, patients slept in 8hr shifts.  A bed as turned 3 times within a 24hr. period.
