Title: New Fullsac Performance M8 Sportpipe dyno test!
Post by: Fullsac Performance on July 10, 2020, 08:05:29 PM
We have a new M8 Headpipe on the shelf! We call it the Sportpipe. It starts life as an OEM cat header. We chop it up into a few pieces, throw away the bad parts, extend the primarys 6 inches and very carefully weld it back together. Then black ceramic coat the entire header. It fits like stock, uses factory heat shields, crossover and cost hundreds of dollars less. Makes power toe to toe with our MX header up to about a 110 HP. On the bigger builds the MX will have a top end advantage. I attached a back to back dyno chart comparing the Sportpipe to our MX Pipe on a 124" M8 with a TTS 200 cam, The Sportpipe held it's own until 3500 RPM before the MX took over. Great pipe for a budget build or any M8 with a stock or mild cam. Fits all 2017-2020 Touring models including Trikes!

Very nice work on that sport pipe.  Looks perfect for a stock or M8 with a cam.  It really does hold well the MX pipe.

I'm a huge fan of the MX pipe on a big inch, high compression M8.

Fullsac is the way to go, twin cam or M8.

Seat of the pants, I'd have to believe it would be tough to realize any difference

I don't have an M8 but every header I have purchased from Fullsac (about 5) is a work of art that kicks ass! I give you all the credit in the world from, methodical research, and beautiful finish, to standing behind your product, you should be proud of your efforts. I will continue to sing your praises to all that will listen.

I’ve always used Steve’s advice on the “package” parts list he recommended for my riding style.
Never a disappointment since 09 on numerous bikes.
I’ll usually get a bike after he has tested HIS shop mule for days and get the same model!
I haven’t made the trip to AZ For a few years for his custom dyno tune as the one he sends me is right on the money for whatever new bike I get.
Agree, quality parts and software and no issues with install and longevity.
I found what works for me and he has a satisfied customer.
Just my 2C.

Thanks for the kind words Guys! I really appreciate it.
Here's a little tech info and story. The M8 Sportpipe is something that I had been playing with for quite a while and actually gave up on. The dyno testing started at the end of 2016 when the M8 was released. I would build prototype headers by cutting up a stocker and using the primarys. I quickly learned with the M8 there was big power to gain by lengthening the primarys. The stock header has the ends crimped into a D shape. I would just cut them back a few inches and continue with round tubing.  The majority of my competitors took the easy route. Their 2-1-2 pipes have stock length primarys and are not any better than a decatted stocker. About a 3 HP gain. I had zero interest in this. I had seen the dyno numbers and was hell bent on longer primarys. Making these long tubes, and an X collector fit under stock shields and then with a crossover was no easy task. It took me quite a while to sort it all out into something that was repeatable in a production environment. I kept at it and we have our MX Pipe today to show for all the hard work. So back to the Sportpipe. I still wanted to build a long tube economy header using the stocker but what to do with this D shaped tubing? I had tried 5 different ways to form the D but just kept crushing the tubing, eventually I gave up and threw it in the corner. I was really frustrated because I knew this thing would hit hard on the bottom end if I could figure out how to stretch the D shaped primarys. About a year later an old childhood friend of mine named Dave Willey came to work for us. As kids, Dave and I built mini bikes, go carts and anything we could fit a "borrowed" lawn mower engine on. We dragged raced Vw's in our early 20s until we drifted apart in life. Dave continued on to work for truly talented people and developed his skill set to a very hi level. Dave's resume includes years of fabricating for the late Boyd Coddington and Hot Rod Icon Chip Foose. Dave was seen in many episodes of Over Haulin but hated the camera and moved on to 6 years of trophy truck building for the Terrible Herbst race team. Now, Dave has downshifted a couple of gears and resides in Lake Havasu. On his first day working for us I showed Dave my abandoned Sportpipe project. He laughed, fabbed up a custom die in a few hours and had us forming D shaped tubes like pros. Sometimes you have to ask for help, it's better than giving up. I'm very fortunate to have this level of talent in house. Today, Dave himself is the man building the new M8 Sportpipe after he brought it back from the dead. I want to give credit where credit is due. Dave Willey is an amazing talent.

Here's Dave giving my Raptor a little more tire clearance. Along with a few other minor mods.

The M8 Sportpipe will not fit a 2016. The Twin Cam Sportpipe has been discontinued. Sorry.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. The DX Pipe is completely different than the Sportpipe. It's all hand made from scratch. Will make more power on the bigger builds. On a mild build the Sportpipe will be fine.

The mufflers used will determine the sound level and quality. When compared to the MX Pipe, the Sportpipe will have a slightly quieter left side exhaust note due to the stock crossover. The best sound quality will always be the MX Pipe with the balanced collector.  ;D

The MX and 2.25 baffles sound fantastic on a 130" M8 with 12.1 to 1 compression.  I have had lots of compliments on the exhaust sound on this bike at idle and then especially when I get on it.

If I was doing mild cam and exhaust only that sport pipe looks to be the ticket.
