How did the "music" in this country get from a performance like this to people with no talent wearing sunglasses and baseball caps backwards walking around on a stage like chickens scratching in the dirt??????????????????
I have been in the mode of collecting DVD concerts, Simon & Garfunkel, Bee Gees, ELVIS! ......... ;)

Howie...had the immense pleasure of seeing the Eagles twice...once as a lead in band for YES in Tuscaloosa (UA program council was run by several hippies who loved good bands at a cheap price), and again later when they hit it big. Damn, I'm an old fart... ;D We had FUN, with capital letters!!

Timing is everything, as we were riding into Yosemite on Wednesday Fred Bear by Ted Nugent played on my disc. Leaving Tahoe and hitting rain Cold World by Great White played. First song on Highway 1 leaving San Simeon this morning..........Hawaii 5-O. Is it luck, or do I have too many songs? As the Nor Cal Tour will attest, I love my music.

Once was at a conference in Chicago and asked the cabbie to take me a good blues club. He took me to this place that was so dark it took 5 minutes for my eyes to adjust. Turned out to be a place called Legends and I saw none other than the club's owner.

I put the list together......she doesn't really care for it. She bought them from itunes then put them on a CD for me. Not sure she wants to take the job on full time.........several of the locals have already asked her to get them a copy.
If we don't go for a weekend ride, this weekend.....I'll try to load them on my computer and then put them on a CD. Don't count on anything........you're dealin with the technology challenged (that's why she had to put them on a CD). I don't know what an sd card is.......don't think I have any nor do I know how to put them one it. But I might can handle a CD.

Look up some of the stuff he did as vocals for Deep Purple on the Slaves and Masters disc, I love "King of Dreams" "The Cut Runs Deep" "Fortuneteller" etc. Just ask next time you see me, all are on the bike!

iTunes and iPod are great for music but Apple and their DRM suck. Songs that you buy are extremely limited as to what you can do with them (like make a CD).
I heard rumors though that Apple may be dropping the DRM here in the states because it apparently is already "illegal" in Europe.
I currently have about 50 songs that I have purchased from Apple that I am stuck only using only on my iPod.
And changing computers is a pain to with iTunes.

How to copy songs from your iPod to your PC
By Gina Trapani, 1:20 PM on Fri May 27 2005, 803,220 views
Update, May 2008: For newer iPod models, see our complete guide to copying music from your iPod to your computer.
A reader points out a straightforward way for Windows users to transfer music from an iPod to your hard drive, without extra software:
Connect the iPod to your PC. If iTunes starts syncing (ie erasing) your music automatically, hit the X in the upper right hand corner of iTunes display, to the left of the search box, to stop it.
In Control Panel, Portable Media Devices, double-click your iPod.
In the Tools menu -> Options, in the View Tab, check "Show hidden files and folders."
Navigate to the Music folder. On my 2nd gen 'pod, the full path is Portable Media Devices\GINA'S IPOD (F:)\iPod_Control\Music
Select all the music folders, and drag and drop them into a folder on your hard drive, or directly into iTunes.
And you're done! The iPod music folder structure is strange and inexplicable, but once you move your files into iTunes you can set it to automatically organize your folder by artist and album to clean that up. (To do this, in iTunes Edit menu, choose Preferences and in the Advanced tab, check "Keep iTunes Music Folder organized.")

Download the free version. It will stop loading the music either every 40 or 50 songs, I forget which. Anyway there is a window that appears (i don't recall what it says) click it to restart music rescue for another 40-50 and so on. A bit of a pain but its free. :jack:  :huepfenlol2:
If it works and you have a lot of music it is worth the $15 to register.

I forwarded the info to her. Ball is in her court now if she takes the initiative to ask for my assistance then I know she is really concerned about getting them back on... if not I'm not going to worry about it. :)
The reason her computer had to be reformatted was because she was peer to peer file sharing (music)... something I told her to be aware/careful about because of virus/spyware/malware of which she got.

This is great information. There is a catch though. I think as long as the data (songs) came from the same PC you're ripping them back onto, you are probably okay.
I've picked up shareware ripping software a couple years ago and copied "other" iPods to my PC. Depending on the way the songs were purchased, i.e. you owned the CD's you put into iTunes and then your iPod, or you purchased them from iTunes' iStore, you may not be authorized to play them.
I have lots of songs on my system that are there, but unable to play because of one reason or another.
I know have just over 12,800 songs on my iPod and that isn't all that's in my iTunes. I have lots of classical that I can play, but just not on the iPod taking up space. I have not purchased many CD's in the past 5 or 6 years, but still I have over 800 CD's in my collection. With the songs in iTunes already, I still have over half of my CD's to download into iTunes.
What I've started to do lately, is rip the audio tracks from DVD's. Sometimes a concert is only available on DVD and you really like the way they did it in the concert rather than some other CD. I have ripped both of the Eric Clapton Crossroads concerts, TX and IL. Some of the artists did things on stage that is not available anywhere else.
Just food for thought.

Neil Young is one of my favorites.
In the USA, Cumbria would be near London. However, in the UK Cumbria is about as far away from London that you can get in England. Cumbria is in the far North (it's also called The Lake District - for good reasons - it always rains and has lots of Lakes), I'm about 25 miles south of the border with Scotland.
Used to work in Croydon about 15 years ago.

So next time I visit I should rent a bike a head north to the coast?
Doubt I'll ever do it, but one day I would like to cruise the English countryside and then head to Scotland for a visit too. The little I have seen in southern England gives me the desire to see the rest of it.

The UK has quite distinct regions, like everywhere I suppose. The further North you get the less traffic in the main, some people think northerners are friendlier. Loads of beautiful places in the UK. However, I'd like to tour the States because it looks so good outside of the cities.
The one thing we have got that no other place really has is the traditional pub.

As soon as the weather breaks, I'm going to activate my XM and give it a shot. Is the sound quality there on XM radio?
-
As good as can be expected on a bike. And you will still have areas where the signal will fade - it is not perfect, but far better then then trying to keep the FM playing.

So the sound and signal quality aren't any better than FM? Also, with it being satellite, I would think that you should be able to pick it up anywhere, just like you should be able to use your GPS anywhere.
-

Let me re-phrase this.
The sound and signal quality are about as good as you could expect out of a motorcycle sound system.
In your house and car you could expect near CD quality out of an XM receiver, with no static. Typically, with XM, if the signal is weak it just goes out, unlike listening to an FM receiver.
XM and Sirius use only one satellite each as far as I know. GPS is a US government run program, called NAVSTAR GPS, utilizing 30 satellites. The system uses 24 and usually has 6 “spare” satellites (there is a new GPS satellite that what put up a couple years ago the is causing havoc with many older GPS units).
You only need three to get the most basic fix and at least 4 to get a “3D” fix (altitude).
Typical consumer GPS units will “see” anywhere from 4 – 12 satellites at a time. Many GPS units have a screen that will show you the sats in view in real time.
So – you only need 4 sats for a “fix. You GPS will typically have in view 8-12 sats.
So that is why your GPS will work better then your 1 satellite XM. It is not unusual in my area to ride down one particular highway that has no tree coverage and to have my XM go in and out.
BTW, it may be hard to believe. But the US government named “NAVSTAR” of the GPS system (Global Positioning System) is NOT an acronym!

Wow, I just went through this entire thread and listened to at least part of almost every song. There's some good stuff on there. So now, ARE YOU GUYS READY TO ROCK? I'm doubting that most of you have ever heard of this group. They have been one of my favorites since back in the 70's. I just saw them in concert last summer here in Pittsburgh and it was without a doubt the best concert I've ever seen. OMG, what a show and what a jam session. After playing together for what must be over 30 years together, these guys know how to play to their loyal fan following. The group is Crack the Sky. This song is called Nuclear Apathy. It starts off very mellow and slow, moves to a bit quicker pace a little under 2 minutes in, then picks up to a completely different high speed pace throughout the mid section of the song, and then back to a slow ending. If you like what you hear, you should really check out some of their other songs. They catch you off guard a lot with changing pace throughout their songs. When I saw them last summer, including a few guest appearances, in some of the songs they had up to 6 guitars playing at once and battling jams back and forth. To make the night a total smash for me, I ran into my old college roommate at the concert. He was the one that originally turned me on to this group and I hadn't seen him since around 1980.

Outstanding as ever in this tiny venue.
The brothers are getting old though, Johnny played most of the night sitting on chair, same as BB King if you have seen him in the last 8-10 years.

Hey - how 'bout those headbangers near the end!
Having seen Iron Butterfly live I wonder why this version is "only" 4 minutes long.
Long Long time ago, I think it was somewhere in the PA Philly area I saw Iron Butterfly, they were good, but most of the bands I saw live back then were.
But they were almost booed off stage, as good as they were the opening band just blew them away, I had found after only one or two songs my new all time favorite to this day band!
The unknown opening act was some band with a silly name picked after a balloon

No, they aren't a hair band! Great White is a Blues based band that just happened to hit in the 80s. Listen to this song, please. It will change how you feel about a band that has had tragedy not of their making in the past. In my heart I lost 200 friends that night in Rhode Island.

Thanks much. Mighty thoughtful of you. I'm confident there will be plenty Classic Rock involved with the two days I plan to be down hard. Certainly I should be able to hobble to the garage, crank the tunes, raid the beer machine, and make it to my chair without too much trouble. Not planning on allowing this to keep me down too long at all. Just as long as it at least lessens the pain and gives me a reliable, stable, non-catching/locking knee, I'll be thrilled.
-
These guys just can't catch a break? Ean Evans of Lynyrd Skynyrd passed. He replaced Leon Wilkerson (the mad hatter) when he passed. What a talent, I have a cd that Bobby Capps of .38 Special gave me titled EVANSCAPPS, some great tunes that I am sure nobody hear has ever heard. Man I hate when someone that has brought me so much joy passes. I am going out the garage and cranking the bass to "Mad Hatter" a song with Ean playing and is a tribute to Leon.
Here is the man at his best! R.I.P. Ean, you deserve it.

OK, for me Van Halen was a good band, Montrose/Sammy Hagar was great! Both Southern California bands, seen them both many times. Then they invite Sammy to join Van Halen, a DREAM come true for an axe head like me. Well Dreams was the song, and I loved it, then I saw the video............ :beam: :glasses: :2vrolijk_02: etc! For you eye and ear pleasure here is Van Halen "Dreams"

Chickenfoot.......................................A new Super Group from Hell.................Sammy Hagar, Michael Anthony, Joe Satraini, and Chad Smith ( Red Hot Chili Peppers ) is a go. Go to: http://www.chickenfoot.us/ and check this out. BIG Sammy fan, this looks good.
-
Will definitely have to check out Chickenfoot! What a name!
I like Sammy too. I've seen Joe Satriani before and love the Chili Peppers so it might not be a bad super group.
Will that have more than one album or be like Temple of the Dog? :nixweiss:
Oh yea, and I've seen Van Halen in every variety even the pathetic line up with the lead singer from Extreme.
If I had all the money I've spent on concerts, I'd be rich! But it's fun talking about them later and remembering all the dumb stuff I've done or should've done when I had the opportunity. My latest CD of choice for riding is Kings of Leon. Don't know why but it fits. Prior to that I rotated between ZBB and Kid Rock! I don't think I took Rock n Roll Jesus out of the Banana for a solid month! I'm sure I'll pop it back in at the end of the month for my first of two shows this summer of Kid Rock and what's left of Skynyrd.

Todd Simpson and Mojo Child is a band out of Alabama that have blues roots, combined with a southern rock flair. Todd and Mojo Child have been playing as a band for 2 years and have already made quite a name for themselves. Todd's story is one of struggles and miracles. Todd has had numerous open heart surgeries and takes a monthly treatment due to an Immune Deficiesncy disorder. Although dyslexic Todd has not let anything stop him from pursuing his dream! Todd picked up the guitar at seventeen and literally days later played his first show. Disabilties that were once thought of as huge challenges are now considered amazing gifts. Todd plays from his soul, he has little or no knowledge of formal music training, Todd sees colors while playing and these colors take him on a journey with each and every song. Todd started playing harmonica at nine much the same way he did the guitar. Todd said he could feel the music, Big Bo McGee an Alabama blues legend bestowed the name Mojo Child , hence the band name Todd Simpson and Mojo Child. A Todd Simpson show is commonly refered to as the Todd Simpson experience by his fans. Rarely will you experience a more high energy, ever changing, emotional musical event! In a short time Todd and the band have played premiere venues throughout the south as well as college campuses in seven states. Todd Simpson has shared the stage with The Allman Brothers, Marshall Tucker, Huey Lewis,Paul Thorn and Phil Lesh and friends. Todd's blazing renditions of famous songs such as Voodoo Chile, Purple Haze, Purple Rain, Little Wing,The Sky is Crying along with originals always has the crowd on their feet and the party full speed ahead. Perhaps the most surprising part of Todd's shows are his renditions of songs that he calls Hip Hop Blues, where he plays popular rap tunes with smoking guitar leads. Todd is accompanied onstage by his father, Wes Simpson, who plays rhythm guitar; their close relationship allows them to intuitively play off of one another. The band is completed with bass player Corey Mitchell, who brings years of experience to the mix, Steve Lazarus who plays congas and percussion and David Burke on drums.

We've done this before, but no sense digging up an old thread.
What do you like to listen to while riding the bike? What's on your Ipod, XM Stations you prefer, etc. You don't have to list them all, but just some favorites so people get a feel for "who you are", and perhaps borrow some of your stuff because they haven't thought of it, or heard it.
On XM, I tend to listen to two stations most often: Classic Vinyl & Classic Rewinds. Also, Deep Cuts, a couple of Blues channels, some smooth Jazz, and occasionally, some raunchy comedy stations. Sometimes I don't listen to anything but the nice drone of the engine and the sounds of riding itself.
On Ipod: Allman Brothers, Grateful Dead, Santana, Goose Creek Symphony, John Prine, Pink Floyd, Yes, Eagles, Beatles, and Bonnie Raitt, just to name a few.
If you like Pink Floyd, here's a UTube with one of their great songs, along with a great light show and one of the best guitar solos ever.
Lyrics:
Hello? Hello? Hello?
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me.
... Is there anyone at home?
Come on now
I hear you're feeling down.
Well I can ease your pain
Get you on your feet again.
Relax.
I'll need some information first.
Just the basic facts.
Can you show me where it hurts?
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child I had a fever
My hands felt just like two balloons.
Now I've got that feeling once again
I can't explain you would not understand
This is not how I am.
I have become comfortably numb.
O.K.
Just a little pinprick.
There'll be no more, ah!
But you may feel a little sick.
Can you stand up?
I do believe it's working, good.
That'll keep you going through the show
Come on it's time to go.
There is no pain you are receding
A distant ship, smoke on the horizon.
You are only coming through in waves.
Your lips move but I can't hear what you're saying.
When I was a child
I caught a fleeting glimpse
Out of the corner of my eye.
I turned to look but it was gone
I cannot put my finger on it now
The child is grown,
The dream is gone.
I have become comfortably numb.

Spydy...you're right. I don't get but one either, but in the car, I get two. I USED to get more than one on the old bike, but that was before they combined XM and Sirius. Allman has to be close to 100 years old now, doesn't he? It's going to badly screw with my perspective of the world when old and still performing rockers actually die of natural causes. Hell, if I considered the Monkeys a real band it might have already happened.

The Monkeys...I hear 'ya, Don.
Gregg is probably about 64 or so now (not too much ahead of me) :o. He had a serious battle with Hepatitis C and had to get a Liver Transplant...it almost killed him, but he's back now. We saw him a couple of months ago, and he's still got it. The voice isn't what it used to be, it's still plenty good for the kind of stuff they do. The past year, he mostly did Gregg Allman & Friends touring, but the Allman Brothers Band is still alive and kicking, with Gregg, the original drummers, the bass player that's been with them for now a long time (Barry Oakley died in a motorcycle crash almost 1 year to the day later than Duane Allman), Warren Haynes (Government Mule, and now with The Dead), and Derek Trucks, who plays the meanest slide you'll ever hear. He's in his early to mid 20's, and probably the best I've ever heard, next to Duane himself. Derek is the newphew of Butch Trucks, the drummer. He's even got some of Duane's old medicine bottles he uses to play slide on his Gibson SG.
The Allman Brothers are currently doing their New York, Beacon, thing....about a 2 week gig, as it's a relativel small venue. They're still tight, and still good....and Gregg's still playin' the old Hammond B3.

If you like Pink Floyd, here's a UTube with one of their great songs, along with a great light show and one of the best guitar solos ever.
Didn't see that particular concert, but did see that show and that solo. Live and at near deafening levels will send goosebumps up and down!

I have seen AB there several times over the years. Just getting too expensive anymore to see live bands.

There are songs you hear at that perfect time, like this one. I have this on a disc and we were in central Cal. with a bunch from here, riding through an area of farms, ranches, and the crows were all over. Just like the time we rolled onto Santa Barbara Pier and Hawaii 5-O came on.

Not much of a rocker - but it is on my "must play" list on the iPod when going on a trip.
Helps to remind me why I can do what I do :2vrolijk_21:

I was a teenager when I first heard that in the 70's, and still love it.

Three Marlenas The Wallflowers
Werewolves of London Warren Zevon
Leave the pieces The Wreckers
I'm having a slow night at work and went through an Ipod........and came up with a few I don't think have been mentioned.
Some sound good loud, some are good to sing with, some are cool old tunes, a handful tell a story, a couple get played once a year, and a few are CANADIAN!
I've certainly not listened to my whole library, but am making an effort to listen to "the B sides" as well as the hits.
If I can find a way to list just the albums by artist.....I'd be willing to pass it all on via a 2T hard drive.......logistics........maybe after I get it all into Itunes!

Wow Hawg, someone else that knows Great White did more than "Once Bittin". I am a big fan and in my collection I have autographed guitar picks by Sean, Mark, Micheal, and the late Ty Longly. Also a number of CD covers signed by the band when it was Jack, Sean, Mark, Micheal, and Audie.
For those that don't know Great White, they are not just a Hair band, they are a blues based rock band. They have one album, Great Zeppelin, a live performance of ALL Led Zeppelin songs, and they nail it on:
The Rover
No Quarter
Ramble On
Immigrant Song
When The Levee Breaks
Stairway To Heaven
Your friends will not believe it's not Led Zeppelin.
On other albums they did covers of other great artists like:
Substitute The Who
Babe (I'm Gonna Leave You) Zeppelin
Red House Jimi Hendrix, Clapton, and many others
Love Removal Machine The Cult
Tangled Up In Blue Bob Dylan
Fire And Water Free
Ready For Love Bad Company
No Matter What Badfinger
Lady Love Robin Trower
Now if you want some Great songs to add from Great White, these are some of their blues based rockers:
Wooden Jesus
Hey Mister
Heartbreaker
Rock Me
Save Your Love
Old Rose Motel
Maybe Someday
Love Is A Lie
Gone With The Wind
House Of Broken Love
As Forrest Gump once said "That's all I have to say about that"
-
Listened to Great White just last night, and you are absolutely right they nail Zeppelin bang on it's amazing. :2vrolijk_21:
-
If you are a Allman Bros fan, you've got to incude these:
Soulshine
Stormy Monday (from Live at The Fillmore East)
Don't Keep Me Wonderin'
You Don't Love Me (Fillmore East)
Ain't Wastin' Time No More
If you're a Dead fan:
Cumberland Blues (Europe '72 album)
He's Gone (same album)
Scarlet Begonias (Mars Hotel)
Fire on The Mountain (same album)
Eyes of The World
China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider (Europe '72)
Jack Straw (same album)
Sugar Magnolia (same)
Tennessee Jed (Same)
Ten Years After:
I'd Love to Change The World
Joe Cocker:
High With a Little Help From My Friends
Leave Your Hat On
Loggins and Messina
Angry Eyes
Traffic:
Low Spark of High Heeled Boys
Light Up Or Leave Me Alone
And if you want to melt a woman's heart or make up for being an ass...
Van Morrison:
Have I Told You Lately
Someone Like You
Days Like This
Etta James:
At Last
-
Joe Cocker:
High With a Little Help From My Friends
Many great suggestions that I will add to the playlist! Thanks tons!
I've heard Cocker sing a cover of the Beatles "Get By With A Little Help From My Friends" but I'm not familiar with "High With a Little Help From My Friends" altho it sounds very much like a Joe Cocker tune and it is in the lyrics of the Beatles song!

Here's a couple more. They are live versions and somewhat hard to find. You have to search Donald en "NEW YORK ROCK & SOUL REVIEW" If you are a Steely Dan fan, these are some really rare live recordings that I know you will enjoy. There is a bonus guest track of Micheal McDonald performing "Minute by Minute" which is another great hidden recording
PRETZEL LOGIC
REELING IN THE YEARS
CHAINED LIGHTING
MINUTE BY MINUTE (MICHEAL MCDONALD)
Didn't see any Procol Harum there either, but you may want to add "conquistidor"
Rossington Collins Band "don't misunderstand me"
The Guess Who....lotsa good tracks, don't forget Grand Funk (footstompin music, and i'm your captain)
Electric Light Orchestra..."evil women" & "roll over beeethoven".....while I'm on the "E's" Egar & Jonny Winter "rock & roll hoochie coo, back int he USA, and still alive and well.
As probably everyone else, I can go on and on and on and on..........AND I GOT SOME NEW ONES FROM THE LIST TOO!!!!!!! THANKS FOR THE EFFORT

I might have missed it, but rather than messing around with individual songs,
keep it simple and just add the entire "Frampton Comes Alive" album.

Now for something a little different. This was the song I was going to use for the ride video with Jimmy. I opted for Molly Hatchet instead. So this one is earmarked for the MV GTG video. It has a Cajun vibe to it IMO (I'm a big fan of Cajun everything!).
Oh and BTW: Jimmy your latest avatar is particularly distracting...Keep up the good work! ;)

If you've not heard of either of these, Ana Popovic or Mike Zito, look them up on YouTube or iTunes.
I saw both of them at a Blues Festival in Columbia MO a few years ago and they were both new to me then. I bought a couple of their CD's and been adding additional albums ever since.
Check them out if anyone likes rock blues.

Anything southern rock gets us in the mood. Hard rock to mellow to old classic rock to the more heavy country is welcome as well.
It's different than when I'm at home, when I want more involved and technical music including classical. But on the bike, classical just doesn't work! :P

Color me weird but sometimes I crank up some of Chopin's Nocturnes when I'm riding. It is an interesting combination of senses, I find it allows me to find my peace and the mind it's place easier than a rebel yell does.

I, too, enjoy classical music when riding, however with a twist (I am typing this sentence in a British accent).
The twist (my favorite passage in Vivaldi's Four Seasons):

You can tell...that I lean more to the heavier style...I have a abundance of music, with a great mix. I tell my wife, that I want to start a new generation of stereo types of riding music...nothing wrong the classics...just need more of a variety within the gatherings.
