2016 Biketoberfest!
Hurricane Matthew has torn its way along the FL, GA, SC and NC Coast with Daytona Beach getting a strong hit along the way. What will it be like this year so close after such an event?
I begin my journey from Eastern Georgia’s coast line and travel down I-95 starting out at approximately 8:15am. It is not until past 9:30am that I see my first motorcycle. This is highly unusual given prior years experience. As a matter of fact I counted only 8 motorcycles being ridden South on I-95 until 5 miles South of St. Augustine!
On the other hand traveling North on I-95, it was like there was a Utility Truck Week that was going on up North! Truck after truck that never ended my entire time on I-95. These first responders were conducting the hard work to reassemble a state that had undergone a reconstruction! I see these sights quite often given my work travel on this road but never quite like this time. Had they conducted all the work and going home? On their way to another place to assist? Whatever the case I certainly appreciated what they were doing and how they assisted me in my own city given Matthew’s path.
The questions remained…would anyone show up? Would there be power? What would it look like? Questions, questions, questions!
