Title: Cvo 103"
Post by: Busterbrown on June 27, 2009, 05:45:22 PM
With all of the reported problems with the new 110 ci motor has anyone gone backwards and relaced the jugs with the old reliable CVO 103" . Any one know what would be involved in the conversion

The case bore is to big for the 103" barrels.

As Jim noted in the above post, once the cases are bored out to fit the 110 cylinders there is no easy way to go backward.  Besides, the issues with the 110 aren't limited to just the bore size.  The 110 came into existence at the same time that the entire Twin Cam engine was changed and cheapened for the '07 model year.  The new primary gearing and outboard location of the chain also lead to some issues, at least in my opinion.  And the cheap crankshafts weren't unique to the 110, they were the standard crank in the 96 as well.

Check with some of the folks on the site who went with aftermarket parts, like Axtell cylinders and pistons, along with other mods to make their 110's reliable.  It isn't about the number of cubic inches, it's about the quality of the parts and the engineering.
