The owners rave about the comfort but I just can't get past the front on Bozo look. They don't seem to be interested in making any changes or they could steal some business. The drivetrain seems to be pretty solid but that look is just hidious.

Doesn't do anything for me. And IF you want to give up that HD Catalog, go for it. I asked about Stage1, Stage II and Stage III. I was told all you could do is CAMs to get to around 100 FTLbs.

Cheers

Hard to disagree with you on the Vision, however their new Cross Country Tour does not look bad. And the price is reasonable too.

Victory designs and engineers bikes based on the latest technology and styles.  Take a look at a Caddy STS, then look at a Crossroads.  We HD owners seem to be happy with designs and technology that are stuck back in the 40's. My .02.

X2...I think Victory will make some serious inroads with those younger than your typical HD buyer.  Let's face it, the average age for a HD buyer/owner has been steadily increasing as the baby boomers age.  We baby boomers have driven HD sales for the past couple of decades or more.  HD may not be so fortunate with the younger generations, unless they change some things about what they are doing.

Whoever told you that was clueless.....

This is a stock 106" Vision:

This is a 106" Vision with slip-ons, air filter, FI controller, a little more compression, and .412 lift drop-in cams:

Yes, that's 103 on torque at 2000 RPM, and still making over 110 at the rev limiter.

It was a local Victory Dealer. Guess he either didn't get the memo or didn't want to sell me one.
Might have been nice to know this when I was looking at a new Cross Roads.
Needless to say I am very happy with my SERK.

Half Crazy, do you have the dyno sheets on yours? I think you have the #'s in your profile so thats cool either way. I just received some twin cam books by Donny Peterson and in one passage he mentions something similar to the Victory as far a OHC's. Will be interesting to see where things head to in the future.

Half Crazy, do you have the dyno sheets on yours?

I saw the results and they printed me a graph... printer cut it off at 2600 rpm... supposed to e-mail to me... excuses. You spend $11K over three years at a shop and get excuses?

I think the 136/142 is optimistic. After racing the bike and riding it with others, my guess is 132/138, but I'm going to have it dyno'd again when the weather cools down some.

These are some other 110" motors like mine... small differences:

An aquaintance of mine owns this. Different pipe and cams than mine (132/141):

Red lines are a similar set-up to mine (130/140):

A bit more cam than mine:

Someplace in there...

Half Crazy...Do you have access to numbers for a more "typical" modification to a 106" bike?  For instance...air cleaner, pipes that are not too loud, but give some "rumble", and a good tune with whatever device.  Just speculation on my part, but I would guess the numbers to be about what a 103A motor would produce in a HD, since, if I'm not mistaken, the Victory 106 is a counterbalanced engine, which robs some power, like the B motor for HD.  There again, the overhead cams may cancel out the effects of the counterbalancers, as they are more efficient than pushrods and associated hardware.  Otherwise, we'd all still be driving 327" small blocks in our cars... ;)

I'm no motorhead...just curious from an technical point of view.

When we were looking at bikes, I spent some time at the local Victory dealer looking at the 2011 Cross Country...I never actually saw the bike I was really interested in...the Cory Ness version.  The paint scheme on that bike was really nice, IMO.  It just lacked a few creature comforts I wanted for a touring bike, but they seem to be getting there with the 2012 version.  Personally, I like the lines of the bike...but when I saw my RG on the showroom floor at the local HD shop, the Victory was knocked off the short list.  Still, I was impressed with the bike, the local dealership, and their maintenance folks...mostly consisting of former "older" techs from the local HD dealerships.  In fact, they still do a lot of HD work at that dealership...it's really their bread and butter, functioning more like an Indy shop.  Again, competition is always a good thing for the consumer.

To be fair, it depends on the individual dealer.

If you were going to build a runnin' motor for your CVO Harley, would you ask some guy at the local dealership? Some dealers are knowledgable about performance stuff and some are not, ya know?

My local Vic dealer drag races and has a couple of 11-second bikes. He builds motors all the time. The next closest Vic dealer wouldn't know horsepower from horse crap.

It's the same for any brand.

I wonder how much crap I will get for this:
How cool is a bike where the reliability of the engine is a crap-shoot?
Don't race the Vision for pink-slips... that could turn out crappy.

I never had any problems 'racing' Vics... I can remember a time when my wife and I were riding back on my 08 Ultra from a visit to Guidera HD in Yuba City. Riding down Nicolous Road, (a rural road) this guy on a Vic Vegas comes racing up from behind and we stoped together at a Hwy 70 stop light. He was all in for a race, light turns green, we take off and I 'feather' my throttle to stay about three/four bikes lengths behind him. We stop together at the next light (Hwy 99) and he turns to me and says "Not bad for an American made Victory eh" Light turns green and I crank all the throttle I got in my 131 brutt, pulling the front wheel off in 2nd and 3rd gear, leaving the ole Vic blocks behind...I completely dusted this guy, with my wife behind me laughing her azz off  ;D... We stop at the next intersection and I wait so I can say to the guy "not bad for a one ton boat anchor" but I didn't get a chance, the guy did a u-turn taking off as if 'momma was calling" ... First off, I was F'ing with you, all in good fun using the word 'crap' (as I suspected you were F'ing with me). Second, I was talking stock to stock. Third, a 131" should absolutely dust any ordinary cruiser and some sportbikes. And fouth, my bike makes 130+HP... weighs 715 full of fuel... and I drag race it for real, so it wouldn't have been quite that easy.  8)

I would like to add: Isn't the whole surprise thing great? How many people would expect a dresser/bagger bike to run like that? The look on the face of someone on an M-109R or V-Rod that wants to show you how fast their bike is... it's priceless.
