The with of the tour pak rack is such that you can mount the 2x4 can be 16" apart so you can catch a stud on both sides.   These are similar to pieces mounted on another wall that I don't have pictures of on this computer that hold the saddlebags as the items under recent discussion here do.  Those were simple to throw together also though and only cost about $20.00 for the material for a pair.

They're just 2x4 in a T mounting.  Bar stock out from the lateral part of the T with a bend on the ends to support the bags via their mounting holes.  Another piece of 2x4 perpendicular to the leg of the T with it's end covered in a couple thickness of glued on scrap vinyl is what the lower part of the side of the bag rests again.  The bar stock I covered with heat shrink tube and put a vacuum nipple plug over each end.  To hold the bar stock to the 2x4 I just drilled and tapped the end of each one and put a screw through the backside of the 2x4 to hold them in place.

So for less than $50.00 and about an hour and 45 minutes time both tour paks and both bags can be up on the wall for cleaning, maintenance, storage or whatever.

Twolane,

Now I know the first project for my new 12" sliding compound miter saw with lasertrac!  I can save $100 dollars for the $500 the saw cost plus material!

It's sure an easy one Bill.  The only measurement that is at all precise or tricky is the distance between the pieces of bar stock.  That has to be just right for the detachable rack to set down.  Whenever you get to it drop me a note back and I'll measure these for you (don't remember now what the measurement was).

Thanks, but probably different for the '04....plus, upgrades will be necessary...Chromed Roundbar to start...I am starting to see the savings evaporate!

This is kind of like telling the wife "this bike has everything" when I talked her into getting it (she knew I would still be spending money on it). Now I keep hearing about the $24K Diamond ring she wants [smiley=shocked2.gif] [smiley=nervous.gif]

hd-dude, Do you think offering to buy her a SEEG would work instead of the ring. It is a little more money than the diamond, but you could save money by knowing what works and what doesn't from your current bike accesorizing experience.  When my husband started hinting about a diamond ring for our 20th wedding anniversary , I told him I'd prefer the key ring to a bike like his.

If he could go back now, I wonder if he'd get me that diamond. haaaaa haaaa haaaa.

Yeap, I believe the rack changed from 04 to 05.  So the spacing your B&B would be different.

Chrome round bar?  You're going to have the most expensive cheap ass homemade rack anyone every built  [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif] [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif] [smiley=huepfenlol2.gif]

Too funny....I would love to have her ride but we have a 4yr old at home that she does not like to leave behind. I've had my bike since October and she has yet to go for a ride on it [smiley=cry2.gif].  I think at this stage in our life she'd like the ring more. Maybe for our 20th she'll get a bike?

OK, so before I buy this.....what do you guys think? The price sure is right, but I don't see any mounting on the top, just in the saddle bag support indent on the bottom of the bags....it looks like it just rests on the stand. Umm... no sure I like that. Any thoughts?

From what I can see in the picture...the bag rests against the center post of the stand. Right on the edge of the lid! I'm not too thrilled about that. The stand would need to be modified to allow the bag to rest against the stand in the lower concave part with some sort of a rubber no-slip NO-SCRATCH material. Cool idea....needs to be modifed though.

I use Cycle care 4 on my leather and it works as well or better than Saddle soap. The stands look interesting (Saddle bags)

http://www.pig-glow.com/

You guys need to check this stuff out.  I've talked with the owner of company, he's a nuclear chemist by trade, biker at heart.  He would be an awesome teacher because he's able to take complex science and put it in words we can understand.  This Pig Glow cleaner / wax- polish is some of the easiest stuff I've ever used and the results speak for themselves.

If I understand the story correctly (I'm telling this second hand so I would need to verify before I stood behind it) but the Lincoln Navigator is made near KC.  They were having a problem with getting the black ones  to look nice.  A biker who was using the fledging prodcut - Pig Glo - and had a black bike suggested they give it a shot.  It cleaned up the black and gave Linoln the finish they were looking for.

I don't know if the above is true, but I do know that everyone I've turned on to this product loves it and keeps using it.  I just got a couple bottles of their new leather cleaner.  I tested it on the CUSE and am going to try it on the wifes Lexus with the tan leather.

If you want to try a product that may actually be technologically superior & produces a great finish you need to try this stuff.
