This is pretty cool....and it's free!
You too can be a part of space exploration by having your and/or a loved ones name added to a space mission vehicle that will remain on the planet Mars for some future generations of Martians to discover/decode. (Actually there are two such missions, one is also going to be sent to the moon) This group has done similar stuff previously and it is totally unique. Search through the website for additional details of past, present & future missions.
The Planetary Society is the largest and most influential public space organization group on Earth. Dedicated to exploring the solar system and seeking life beyond Earth, The Planetary Society is non-governmental and nonprofit and is funded by the support of its members.
Once you enter your full name, you can print down a colorful document that has your registered name and number listed. You can get the certificate (Messages from Earth - Phoenix) in a Holiday Certificate form or in the Standard Format (for birthdays, etc.). Either way it's
free...so, Happy Holidays! And it's the perfect thing to give to that weird member of the family that no one likes to socialize with or for the person that does have pretty much everything already...and it's cheaper than chrome! The certificate verifies that your name (or whoever's name you enter) will fly on Phoenix, the first lander to explore the Martian arctic. You can enter a name and search/print it out later if you like and there is no obligation or emails seeking donations.
Act soon, as there is a February 1st deadline.
