Capo:  Couldn't agree with you more.  The seat and backrest would look good on a rice burner, but for $41K, I would have thought the MoCo could have done a much better job.  After talking to the Customer Service at MoCo, it doesn't sound like they are interested in solving this issue.  I wanted a Road Zepplin for my new scoot, but none available through HD and haven't found an after-market seat that will fit without some home mods being done to it.  After my accident 4 years ago and with a fractured pelvis, fractured tail bone and lumbar vertabrae, the stock seat is painful to ride for any distance.  Why don't we get a class action complaint going and maybe the MoCo will do something about the piss poor seat on this beautiful bike.

There is an idea...   :2vrolijk_21:  I suggest we put a list together of things like this to do - Right after convincing the MOCO to first acknowledge and then correct the issues with the 110 motors.  Then, after that we should tackle something a bit easier, like getting the Sun to rise in the west and set in the east, then make the sky green and grass blue, then move onto the seat issue....   :huepfenjump3:

We should try this in Kentucky. We already have blue grass!

Maybe you've already tried this, but you can move the base of the backrest forward by removing the seat and unbolting assembly. There are a few positions forward that it can be moved to, but if you go any further than 1 it will make the seat/backrest slot look stretched out.

Moved if forward 1 notch, and it feels soooo good!  Thanks!

I have been using the FLHX style one like Scott had pictured in the second post.
Nice and adjustable, both for and aft and up and down.
Nice fit and easy to remove and put back in.

Thanks SadunbaR-fact is considering the $$$ investment the seat SUCKS! I do like the heat option on these 40 degree mornings-but the backrest has staples showing and the leather has a cheap low quality vinyl look to it-and to think it'll take another 1K to get what the Moco should've done on the line just pi$$e$ me off. So what did you do?? :coolblue:
I like the backrest but was upset about the STAPLES and had dealer call HD they said they had 3 other calls about this so a replacement would have the same Staples. But in my manual it shows a guy installing the backrest and it has a real nice piece of chrome trim on the back and no STAPLES check it out I think we should all complain and get new backrests.I just want 1 like the picture

I don't know. I really like the seat. Its as comfortable as the Mustang on my old bike. The backrest was useless for me, way too far back, but I haven't tried moving the bracket forward. But, I don't really miss it.

MoCo has tow styles of backrest.  The one that's pictured in this thread is adjustable forward and back by pulling a lever.  Like a reclining car seat.  The one that comes stock requires an allen head screw.  If you look on the HD website in the P&A section or int he P&A catalog you'll see some larger backrests that will slide into the existing bracket.  You can adjust the mounting point forward and back on the SE backrest put a bigger backrest into it and by how far down you slide it when you put it on, adjust the height.

If you go with the pictured lever adjustable backrest you CAN'T use the heat shields by Kuryakyn or HD as the lever mounts in the same place.

Ride Safe,

Frostie,

After much discomfort, I did exactly what one other member suggested.
I went after the basic stitch HD Backrest, looks good on our bikes, and is quite a bit larger which provides more area for the back to lean into.
After taking off the seat and moving the hardware bracket forward, then reassembling, it does leave your slot larger, however after a month or so, it seems to mold and the gap decreases. Also using the allen adjustment on the backrest, moved it around so the top would not cut into your spine, It does feel better than original and did move me forward in the seat so that handlebars feel better, leaning back using Hwy Pegs, it is definitely more comfortable.
It is better than original backrest for comfort, after saying this anyone interested in an 08 Rider Backrest, Guaranteed to Break your back into!

I moved my base one notch and put a slight bend in the two round bars and now it fits great. Some trial and error, but well worth it.
