Title: "Bike safe" North Carolina
Post by: SBB on November 20, 2009, 08:45:00 PM
Today was a fun day.
A buddy and I rode to Raleigh to take a riders course called Bike Safe.

http://www.nccrimecontrol.org/Index2.cfm?a=000003,000014,001583

This course is given by the NC Highway patrol at their training facility in Raleigh.
The purpose is to improve your riding skills by riding along with NC Highway Patrol Motorcycle officers.
I was assigned an officer that followed me as I rode the roads around Raleigh.
We had a good time, learned a lot and got outrun a few times by officers on BMW's.
Here's a few pictures.

Look at the floorboards on this 09 Harley police bike.
There are no sides.

They were also training new recruits.

Almost thought I was back on Parris Island where Nancy's son Robert got his basic training.

Here is David, the officer that rode with me.
He liked my bike.

My training officer was the second guy from the right.

I had a great time and I think he did also.

It's cool to run down I-40 with the Highway Patrol right behind you and no blue lights.

Chip,
Looks like you had a good time. :2vrolijk_21: If you think having the Highway Patrol riding behind w/no blue lights is fun it is even more fun to be following them WFO... I've ridden w/some of my local moto-officers from escorted rides and needless to say I was glad they were riding with me and I was following them. :vrolijk27:

Two thoughts Chip:

Besides the fact that you can't out run the NCHP; what'd you learn?  :nixweiss:

How hard was it to hold back for a whole day w/ smokey bear behind you?  ;D

Learned a lot Jim, much more than I can type here.
I will tell you the next time we meet or talk.
As far as holding back, I saw some of the others riding below the speed limit because the officer was on their tail.
I talked with my officer a little and realized he was very cool.
So I played a little. (Damn, those BMW's are fast)
So it was a great day, I learned new techniques, had fun and made sure my officer had fun.
And he did!
