Shark EVO-One 2
« on: February 25, 2020, 07:06:36 AM »

I have been looking for a couple months at a replacement Modular helmet for my 6 year old Shark Evoline 3.  I have looked at the Schuberth C3 and C4.  C4 seemed like to much money to have to take speakers out to go with my BOOM.  C3 had pressure points by my temples.

I also looked at the Shoei Neotec 2 which seemed to be a very nice helmet.  It came down it it and the Shark EVO One 2 helmet.  In the end it came down to the Shark for a few reasons.  I had been mostly happy with my old Shark, and it seems like the issues I had with the old Shark had been addressed on the new helmet.  The rain seal for the visor is much better on the new helmet, and will not fold over like the old one.  The visor now has an included Pinlock.  The sun shade has a better open and close mechanism.  Also the vents are bigger and better on the new one.

I also like the fact it can be worn as a 3/4.  This makes having a snack or getting a drink while riding down the interstate much easier.  Here it is as 3/4

Rode 274 miles yesterday with this helmet.  Weight is slightly less then the first one, but not much.  About the same as the Shoei Neotec 2.

The Chin bar work better and so does the face shield than the first, both open and close easier.  The sun visor also work easier than the first one and is more coverage. The Pinlock does work pretty well.

Its not as quiet at 70 mph as I would like but its not bad, there's is some wind noise.  Visibility out of the helmet is good.

I have a really good test of the hemet now, just rode with it on for 1821 miles.  It did well at 31 degrees in the snow.  There was very minimal fogging around my nose with the pillock, nothing that affected vision at all.  First day I wore it on the trip was 525 miles, started at 29 degrees and was 58 degrees when we stopped.  The chin bar is much easier to operate than the older Shark Evoline I had.  Goes up and back easy for getting drinks or snacks while on the interstate.  Also when you open the chin bar it opens the main shield on like the old one, very nice.  The sun shield is bigger and opens and closes easy.

Second day we started at 57 degrees and was 77 degrees when we stopped.  Hemet temperature stayed comfortable at interstate speeds.  In town at 77 it got warm, not enough air flow below 20 mph.  That said chin bar open and back it was comfortable.

On the way home it was 54 and raining for 3 hours.  It did well in the rain, no drips on the inside.  I was very comfortable, and very minimal fogging near my mouth but nothing at all in line of sight.

I have 2 complaints with the helmet.  First and most significant is wind noise at 75 mph.  It is louder than I would like, but quiter than some of the modular helmets I have tried.  I can live with it, mainly as being able to ride with chin bar open and back is very nice for me and out weighs the noise for me.  For some it may not out weight the noise.

Second complaint is the speaker cut outs.  They are size perfect for the small speakers that come with the Sena 20S or Sena 30K.  They big speakers that come with those units will not fit with out modifications.  I would rather run the bigger speakers, so I will eventually modify.  That said speaker placement is good.  Never an issue to hear Nav prompts, CB or music.

Thanks for the thorough review Dave.  Will take another look at this helmet. From your comments it is an improvement.

Thanks Dave nice review, I have one of these on its way to me I never used a full face helmet I purchased this for bad weather Rain and very cold days. After heading back home from Sturgis last year we hit a bad storm heavy rain in the Chicago area I wish I had a full face helmet. I been checking them out and I like the chin bar on this helmet that opens and closes quickly also the 2 shields. Question did you put the fog film they give you on the shield ?.

I did have the Pillock that comes with the helmet installed.  That is a huge improvement over helmets with out Pinlock.  I'll never have a full face or modular helmet again with out pinlock.  Your statement above about bad weather is why I always travel with a modular helmet, I can see much better in the rain, so its safer to continue to ride when needed.
