04 SEEG King Tour Pack
« on: September 10, 2007, 10:33:53 PM »

If you order an orange pearl/black king tour pack from HD for an 04 O/B SEEG, does it match the bike perfectly (i.e. pinstripping, etc.)?

If I remember correctly it has the pinstriping on the top like the fairing, and I believe it has the "swoosh" on it too. If you need I can get some pictures and post.

It will look like this, only orange and black, of course (and no spoiler):

And if you get the painted to match spoiler it won't have the striping continued on it.  Brian's pictured there has striping he got done after it was installed (just like a few others).

Can't even really blame anyone for that either.  The install is not so precise that you could ever expect the stripes to line up if they were on it to begin with.

Pete, it also will come with a home in the back for the antenna that you will have to cover up.

Little hint, if you dont have the detach kit, don't go with the one on the 05 or later. The detach points are close together and the tour pack will wobble. Mine has the earlier version and doesn't move any.

B,

Do you know if you can still get the older rack? I'm not crazy about the 'wobble pack' that's on my bike.

Has anyone come up with a fix for the wobble? Peening might work, but would mess the chrome up.

Wow never thought that it was discontinued. The older one is not a pretty as the new one but I recall someone posting not too long ago that they almost lost their tour pack, and it had the new mount.

I guess if you have a passenger it will not be as wobbly since their back is putting pressure on the mount. I still like to have the extra room when riding long distance alone. Damn pack cost too much to have it fall off the bike because of vibration.

Pete check with Chris, he might have one laying around the dealership that no one claimed.

I believe the reason they were discontinued was because of a design flaw. Both Mr.We and myself had ours to crack at mount hole/weld (see this thread - 04 Tour Pack Rack). Mine was replaced w/the newer style and I've not had any problem w/wobble. I only use mine once/twice a year though so that may be the reason. :nixweiss:

Gary I will check mine out for a weld flaw. If I have one I will re weld it and send it with everything else to the chromer, if I ever find a good, reliable one.

Hmmm, this is becoming more trouble than it is worth :drink:  So which detachable ount do I use?  The P&A says mount will fit '97 up touring bikes.

Also looking at the Corbin Streamliner tour pack in gloss black, comes with back rest installed (will match my Corbin seat), liner, etc.  Just add detachable tour pack mount.  Same size as chopped tour pack.  Looks nice and would probably good in all black with an O/B bike.  Would like to see some pics if anyone has one out there

I have the 04 Pumpkin and a King HD factory painted tour pack, I also have the new detachable rack, it fits fine, the paint is a dead ringer, looks great. I also have the chopped tour pack from a 00 SE Road Glide (ebay), the paint is close, just no fleck in it, I had the flame pinstriping and swoosh added to that one, you cant tell the difference. I added the spoiler to the king, I moved it too far back and now it rubs a little on the antennae if I dont remember to pull the antennae back when opening, otherwise I love it for trips, the wife loves the comfort. I like the chopped when I ride solo because of the look, much sleeker. I call it my draggin bagger.
