Anybody taken off their stock shifter peg?
« on: June 06, 2009, 09:24:01 AM »

I am almost embarrassed to post this but here it goes.  :-[  I am trying to replace my stock shifter peg on my deuce with a Skull shifter peg and they must have used a bottle of locktite or gorilla glue or something at the factory.  Seriously this thing wont budge.  I have googled and found a little help that I am going to try this afternoon...heat gun or hairdryer.
Here's the problem I am starting to round the damn allen head out of this thing.  I removed the rubber by taking the small allen off and I can not break the bolt loose.  And as I stated above now I am starting to round out the head of the allen.  When I googled I keep seeing that people just put vice grips on and take the right off in like 5 mins.  Well this is not working for me either.

Any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I used a pipe wrench on the pad to break it loose. Not sure if yours is mounted the same, but turning the pad on mine cracked loose the bolt.

Thanks GtreetSlide.  Under the ruber there is a screw that I think when I turn the shifter peg it will just spin...but I can try that.  Thanks for the help.

I got that DAMN Thing off.  Man it was either going to break or come off and I got it.  The hairdryer or heat gun is a big help.  I will post a pic of the new shifter soon.

Great !  :bananarock:

Harley fasteners for some reason have a tendency to strip out at head or on threads. i order high quality fasteners whenever I tear into it so I don't have the same problems going forward. Good hardware is expensive, but one bad bolt is enough to justify better hardware..
