09 comp question
« on: March 07, 2014, 03:03:39 PM »

Ok I don't see to much wear on this comp so I think I will put it back in. The question is on the rotor there is a type of spring in it that puts pressure to the comp. It is not tight to the stops.......should it be?

Spring should be under some compression when the comp is snugged down. Preload of .060-.090 approx on that model. No preload, the mating cam/sprocket areas have worn too much and the comp will most likely chatter in light cruise or light accel loads.

is that a little wear on those ramps in the pic?
While you have it out, why not just upgrade it.  It will fail at some point and you will just have to replace it then, why not deal with it now

How many miles are on that compensator?  If there are not allot of miles on it and you don't expect to pack them on I would wait as we may not have seen the last version of the MOCO's attempt at fixing the compensator issue.  I have an 08 with 70k miles and I have replaced 3 so far.  The last one I installed is the 2014 model with the improved modifications for oil to get where it's needed.  I'm guessing they are working on another upgrade right now.  Their track record is poor for the compensators.  If it's not causing the typical problems I would put it back in.  I only have 3000 mile on the new one and it looks worse worn than yours.
