2020 CVO LIMITED SEAT
« on: September 22, 2019, 09:10:12 AM »

I just sat on a '20 CVO Limited and the new seat addition isn't working for me. I'm 6'3" and the pad just below the rider backrest pushes you forward an inch or two basically making me sit on the tank. What were they thinking??

They were probably thinking that the average American male is 5” shorter than you.

MOCO is thinking of future sales of seats they have hanging on the walls of every dealership out there.  Just like windscreens, hand & foot controls, speakers and a whole book filled with how to make the bike feel comfortable.

:2vrolijk_21: :2vrolijk_21:    It's just a continuation of the business model they had that said sell under-performing motorcycles and then sell parts to make them run decently at an additional big price.  Since the EPA finally took much of that model away from them, they just shifted focus to all the ergonomics issues.  Meanwhile other companies make things like adjustable windshields standard, and powertrains that are out-of-the-crate still head and shoulders better than H-D's offerings.

Considering the way Harley avoids things like adjustable seats, there is no way the stock seats can fit everyone.  People come in a huge variety of sizes.  Over in the automotive industry we came up with a lot of features to make our seats fit more people, from nine way adjustability (fore/aft/tilt/high/low/lumbar/etc) of the actual seat, to adjustable steering wheels, and eventually to adjustable pedals.  And we still have people who don't fit well.  Harley hasn't made any effort at all by comparison.  They even eliminated the old adjustment for the footboards when they changed the frames for the touring models back in 2009.  They need to at least offer a choice of seats based on rider size at no extra cost, but I seriously doubt that will ever happen.

Care to share the memo on this?

As I stated above, it’s likely to have a lot more to do with the fact that the average N. American male is 5’ 10” and the OP, at 6’ 3”, is in the 97th percentile for height amongst his fellow N. American men. For the slow among us, that means the OP is taller than 120,000,000 of the roughly 124,000,000 American adult males running around the country.

Nobody is going to design bike ergonomics for 3% of the market segment unless they are really, really dumb.

But it’s really a lot less than 3% due to the number of CVO bikes sold internationally: in Japan the average male is 5’ 7”, and in China it’s less than 5’ 6”. It’s similar in the Middle East. The OP would be a monster in Asia, South America or the Middle East, where the majority of humans actually live, and where H-D would like to sell motorcycles.

But none of those facts are likely to prevent people from thinking of anything other than themselves, so I guess why bother.... let’s just gripe!

HD makes the "Tall boy" seat for taller riders. One of my friends has one and he likes it.  He is 6-2 or 6-3.. makes me feel like a dwarf and I'm 5-9...

Tallboy seat is better for those of 6'3" but I cannot use an adjustable rider backrest. And you cannot just use the formula for CVO bikes. All Harley touring bikes use the same seat configurations. I personally love the Hammock seat, but it raises me up 2 more inches and requires me to put a taller windshield on for longer rides. Thats where an adjustable windshield would be appreciated.

At 5' 11" with a 30.5" inseam the seat was perfect for me, road for an hour yesterday and had no tightness in my shoulders at all.

I am 6'2 with a tall torso and have a 2019 CVO and love the mustang seat with heat and backrest. I tried the saddleman and it was too hard. Would love 1 more inch, but overall much better than stock!

Ditto on the (heated) Mustang with backrest.
6'4" big'un on a 2019 Ultra Limited - I too, would like it to be back another inch or so,
but SO much better than stock. Recently added Tallboy handlebars, that's a big help, too.
Certainly a good upgrade from my perspective.

I'm 6'3", 34" inseam and have had my 2020 CVO Limited for about a month now and I'm comfortable with the stock seat.  :nixweiss:

I'm nearly 6'2 (187cm) and the stock seat is fine. It seemed to reduce seat room at first sight, but I don't feel it when riding. May be the size of the belly matters more  ::) (184 Lb in my case)

Does anyone know the part number for the 2020 cvo limited seat?
I'm thinking of putting one on our 19.
