New HArley Rider with question
« on: December 12, 2006, 07:52:15 AM »

 [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]
Morning all, I just bought a used 06 FLHTCUSE (3K miles) came with V&H Tru-Duals with stock baffels,PCIII
Love the machine only have one question.????? Is there a trick to getting better gas mileage?? I currently am getting 25-30 MPG, had it into the dealer and had the PC tweeked alittle and got up to 31 MPG,running 65 -70 on super slab. The bike was origanilly from Geneva NY, I live i Florida (KSC AREA) so altitude will make a difference. Any suggestions???
(Previousily rode a Yamaha 1700 Roadstar 05) hence the name Old Roadstar
Thanks,
"TIMMY"

Welcome Roadstar.  Since you've relocated the bike, you should look for a good PC tuner in your area. The guys here will probably know someone close to you.  I have a SERT and get between 35 and 40 depending on the conditions. You made an excellent choice to enter the HD world. Now get your wallet out.    ;D

Welcome to the site, glad you found it.

GC is right, find a shop with a dyno guy familiar with PC and get it tuned.

Welcome to the site Roadstar.  You recent newbie's are starting out right as you are posting pictures of your ride on your introduction.   Can't help with the gas mileage but there are others who will.

Welcome aboard [smiley=huepfenjump3.gif]. What a way to come ovet to the Harley world, First class [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

For your fuel economy you should get the bike onto a dyno to see what your AF is and go from there. Another thing is the fuel economy is directly proportional to the speed that the wrist twists. I get about 30ish around town while roppin' on it and close to 40 crusing the hiways.....

I don't worry much about mileage but when we went to Colorado for the CVO ride in Cripple Creek last June, I did see that quality gas makes a huge difference.

Not sure what the situation in Florida is but I would use gas with the least amount of methanol possible.  If you have gas without any that is best, when getting good quality gas I ran over 40 mpg while over 70 mph (conservatively, more like 80)

Hi Timmy,

I, too, am a newbie.  I have a 2004 H-D V-Rod.  I've ridden most of my adult life as passenger.  I decided it was time to get my own Harley.  I recently took the Honda motorcycle safety and riding course.  Well worth the money.  I failed two out of four maneuvers of the riding test and didn't get my license in the end.  Everyone here has offered me great advice and encouragement.  You are among a great bunch of people here!

I've learned more here than anywhere else.

Welcome!  Julia

Welcome OLD ROADSTAR,

Gas mileage for me varies quite a lot based on driving conditions. In town in the heat of summer stop and go driving with 10% ethanol 93 octane I have gotten 30mpg worst tank.
Then cooler weather on Interstate with some moutain twisties but mostly 65mph non-stop with 93 octane gas with no ethanol I got 39mpg. 8-)
Most of the time it's combo riding with 10% ethanol 93 octane and i get around 35mpg with the stock pipes,a/c no tuner.
I love your color choice of bike too! ;D
Ride safe.

Hey Timmy,
Welcome to the site.  I also traded in my Roadstar for the Autumn/Haze 06 FLHTCUSE.  What a great bike.  We had a great summer on ours and the wife loved the comfort [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif].

As a new member to the site, let me welcome you with a promotional plug:  Check out this link for information on joining us at our annual CVO get together.  This year it is being held in Nelson, British Columbia, Canada.  Hope you can join us [smiley=xyxthumbs.gif]

 :o Hey Timmy,
Like in a previous response, heat has always had alot to do with mpg. Plenty of threads to investigate. I've always had good luck with improvement to mpg with better breathing and exhaust. Race tuners will always help and adjust to your conditions. Welcome and open up the purse strings.
