SERT RECALL
« on: March 28, 2007, 09:48:24 PM »

I just heard something tonight about SERT's for '07 bikes being recalled by the MOCO.  I'm going to check with the dealer tomorrow, but has anyone heard anything about this?

I thought the same thing.  My SERK is supposed to be built this week.  I've already bought the SERT.  I might have to run "Stock" for awhile.  I'm emailing my guy at Bumpus for a report.  I'll post any info that I get.

07 SERT Recalled?
« Reply #3 on: March 29, 2007, 10:24:28 AM »

I heard yesterday the 07 SERT's had been recalled and there is not a re-release date set. Local dealer said they hoped to see them in a month or so but that was just a wag.
Has anyone else run into this?

I haven't heard anything, and neither has the dealership that I bought my bike from.  What is this supposed "recall" supposed to do?   Also, what could be recalled on the SERT?  It's a circuit board inside of an interface.  The only thing that would be recalled would be the software, as that's what writes to the ECM.  And they don't recall software, just offer patches or updates.  I haven't had any issues using mine, so not really sure what this recall would entail.   But I'm no expert, so this is all just idle ramblings on my part.   I guess what I'm saying is, unless you hear officially, I wouldn't get to wrapped up with this just yet.  JMHO.

Just got new information from the dealer; they are not recalled only out of stock and said they had called dealers all over and found the same thing. They are now saying they are hoping to get some in a month.
So, forget the recall and I'm sure Chicago has them.

I had a factory recommended reflash perfromed on mine last year after I had around 800 miles on it.
The bike road off the showroom floor with slip-on's and a canned map.
It ran ok but now is better with Rh 2-1 and dyno tune map.

I spoke to the dealer today and they confirmed that it was not a recall, but just out of stock situation.  I've already got one on the shelf with other parts for the new SERK, so I think I'm good to go.

OK, got the "rest of the story" from Chicago HD. They have 58 on order and expect them in a month. The new SERT is a "G" model, the previous ones were a "F" model. No more "F" models will be made because of a software problem BUT they are not recalling them! (how do you like that? They know there is a problem but I guess they are hoping it doesn't get out.)
Anyway the problem has been corrected and supposedly the new "G" model will be out in a month is ok.
This came straight from Chicago HD.

So I have to ask the obvious question.

How do you tell the difference from an "F" or a "G"?

DUH. forgot to ask. I assumed it was in the serial or model number. Call Chicago HD technical support, that is who I spoke with.

The SERT is a software with a connecting interface for the transfert of the MAP between the computer to the ECM.

"F" or "G" are the different versions of the software.
Normally, the version is written on the cd.

The connecting interface is always the same but it's in this that the serial number of the ECM is written when the first connection is made.
It means that the connecting interface is "married" with the ECM and not useable with another.

I recall from school that an "F" meant you flunked.  Maybe I should let Bumpus keep the "F" and wait for a "G" (didn't "G" that stand for good).

Version H just went obsolete and "J" came off backorder a couple of days ago.

From what I understand, which is very very little, I think it is only a problem with 07 bikes, But then as you can see above the information I got from Chicago HD technical dept. might not have been correct. :nixweiss:

I plan on talking to the guy that's going to do my dyno tuning (Brian Rose at Bumpus Memphis).  I'm sure not going to pay for 5 or so hours of dyno time with a SERT that the tech doesn't approve.  Hopefully you're working with a tech that nows his stuff around a dyno machine and he should be able to lead you straight on this whole SERT issue (that's what I'm gonna count on).

All SERTs are the same. The different versions are just updated CD's.
Here is a list of the various changes to the Cd's

"(CD Revision 'F', 10/18/2005)
•Added the following Model Year 2006 specific calibrations.
34. 141NU002 – 1550 Stage 2 for Shotgun or Shorty-Dual style exhaust.
35. 141NW002 –1550 Stage 2 for Shotgun or Shorty-Dual style exhaust with Oxygen Sensors.
36. 141MP002 – 1690 FLHTCUSEi with SE A/C and mufflers.
37. 129NK012 – 1550 CNC with 50 mm Intake and Shotgun or Shorty-Dual style exhaust with Oxygen
Sensors.
38. 129NO003 – 1690 Super High Output with 50 mm Intake and Shotgun or Shorty-Dual style
exhaust with Oxygen Sensors.
39. 127NO003 – 1690 Super High Output with 50 mm Intake and Shotgun or Shorty-Dual style
exhaust.
40. 127YN001 – 1250 VRSCSE2 with SE A/C and Stock Mufflers.
• Corrected parts listings for SE Pro 50 mm EFI Throttle Body.
• Corrected parts listings for SE Pro Tunable 2 into 1 Exhaust.
(CD Revision 'G', 1/18/2006)
• Added Model Year 2006 calibrations numbered 41 - 60.
• Added 'Injector' column to the 'Descriptions' table.
Model Year 2007 Software Updates
(CD Revision 'H', 5/1/2006)
• Added Model Year 2006 calibrations and parts lists numbered 61 - 66.
• Added Model Year 2007 calibrations and parts lists numbered 67 - 88.
• Added column for 2007 XL ECM.
(CD Revision ‘J’, 1/4/2007)
• Added Model Year 2007 HDI calibrations and parts lists numbered 89 - 94.
• Added Model Year 2007 calibration 95.
Updated calibrations 78, 79, and 88 to improve fuel economy.
• All 127 cal filenames rev'd to -B2.
• All 129 cal filenames rev'd to -A2.
• All 141 cal filenames rev'd to -A2.
• All new cal filenames rev'd to -A1.
• New Features:
Tuning Mode 4.6.2. adds new calibrations for 2007 HDI vehicles and Active Intake and Exhaust functions for HDI vehicles that support this feature. All
2007 model year ‘Big Twin’ calibrations have been updated to allow using the ‘Automatic Compression Release’ (ACR) function. Refer to the pull
down HELP in Tuning Mode for further information."

As you can see, HD has changed maps 78,79 and 88. If you run either of these maps without any "custom" changes, you should load the "new" map to take advantage of the factories updates.
If you are getting your bike tuned at a dealer, they most likely do not even use "your" CD. They will have the latest CD loaded into their computer.

Igofar,

You missed only one caveat to what you were saying.   Even if you have had a custom dyno map on a 110 you should have the bike's map converted over to the J version and then reloaded into the bike.    The reason behind this is because they goofed in F/G versions by turning off or not enabling the compression releases.   Thus in the maps for the bikes with compression releases they renabled the compression releases in version J.   When you load the new map a box comes up and point blank asks if you want to enable the ACR (auto compression releases).   that is why I had put it up on my ftp site for those with their maps and a 110 engine they only simply needed to open the software 2 times on their desktop ... open one with their old map one with the new map and copy the tables from old to new and then reload and they were ready to travel.

If you currently own the F version or G version since there is no recall all you need is the latest software and a little bit of computer savy to copy and paste the tables into the new map.   If you feel your unable to do this and want some help send me a PM and I will help you to copy your own maps over to the new software.

Checked on this with my dealer today, I have the G version he called moco and told me mine should be ok. But sounds like you know better. So where do you get the J version to do this.
Thanks Terry
