Fitment of Doherty Power Pack
« on: April 29, 2007, 06:42:31 PM »

I purchased a Doherty Power Pack for 99-07 Twin Cam motors. Not thinking that their might be a difference for one for a fuel injected motor, the dealer said it would not work on my motor. I put the one for a 01-07 Delphi Fuel injected motor and the only difference I can tell is the one for the fuel injected motor has fuel injected imprinted on the top of the backing plate.

My question is is there really any difference between the two?     If not I will have one for sale and will put it in the selling section because I bought the one for the fuel injected motor also. Just don't want to pay restocking fees to return it.

Brian,
The Delphi EFI is round. The M&M EFI is oval  If you've got an Delphi, it shouldn't matter what year your trying to fit it to.

Big B, what I have is one for a carb, I think. One mechanic says there is no difference between a Delphi efi and a carb breather.

Drags part number for what I have is DS 289607

If I was you, at this point I'd call Tim Doherty and ask him.

Brian (B), most aftermarket suppliers share part numbers for air cleaner accessories for stock sized intake bikes with Delphi for both carb'd and FI models.  Doherty is one of the few that don't.

I put one of these on a Road King for one of the local riding buddies here last fall.  His bike was carb'd and we found out then there were different part number.

Whether the differences actually screw up installation or not I can't say.  Only had the part correctly described for the bike we were there working on.  This image from Doherty's website, however, shows a definite difference between the two parts though.

Brian, there are 2 different backplates, one for the stock HD cover and filter, and one for an S&S cover and filter. Either fit my SERK, but the backplate determines the filter/cover application. It only takes about 15 minutes to install, so just check it out. I have the one for the S&S cover and love it. Was doing between 80 and 110 most of the day, and barely puked anything. I'm pretty sure what you have will work. Try it. If it doesn't, then you can exchange it. Good luck. Hoist! :o
