Now, I'm really going to be in trouble showing my dongle on the site, but here it is.

So, could the cable on the SERT for the '07 bike been different?  I've got a cable that seems to have a little rectangular plug on one end.  With all electronic stuff getting smaller as years go by, especially dongles, I'm wondering if the cable for my '07 has the dongle as an integral component.

Don't they have medication now for guys that have problems with their dongle?

If you take a Viagra and don't swallow fast enough, do you get a stiff neck? ;)

It's my understanding that the "dongle" is what marries to the ECM. I would think you should/would have a dongle for each bike. :nixweiss: The cables were interchangeable.

My cables are in a SERT box on my CUSE and that bike is currently in for a 15,000 mile service.  I may post pics after I've got both cables back.

I THINK

that once the dongle is married to the bike the dongle can't be used on any other bike, But your ECM can still be read by the dealer and if need be reformatted to original factory specs. You lose what ever program was in there but then you can start over with a new sert if you want.

The SERTs for 06 and 07 were the same, maybe a different firmware version, but the physical characteristics are the same.  They both use the same cable.  The the Super SERT, came out in 08, uses a different cable (it looks like a USB printer cable instead of serial connectors like the older SERTs use.)  If you can't locate the interface for your bike, all you have to do is buy a new SERT and it will "marry" to your ECM and you can tune again.

Well, not exactly.  Here is post I made on Feb 20, 2008, under topic "SERT Revisions"  Guess the later SERT came pre-packaged with its own Viagra.

Jim's post about re-programming SERT so it could be used again on another ECM got me to wondering if I'd saved the dongle from my '06 bike which was wrecked.  Found it and compared it to the dongle I bought last year for my '07 jester.  As far as I know nothing really changes about the dongle with the various revisions - just the software and data files are updated.  But as you can see in the photo the dongle on the left dated 01-09-06 is smaller than the one on the right dated 05-30-07 even though they both have the same p/n 32114-01A.

Just buy a PowerCommander and then you won't have to worry about your "Dongle". :huepfenjump3:

Can't say i learned much from this thread but I sure did have a good laugh.

So I guess if you buy a used bike form a dealer or get the vIN and go to a dealer to see if there should be a dongle.  After all, its $500 and a tune if you need to replace it.

Jim's post about re-programming SERT

u cant reprogramme the sert, 1sert=1ecm  end of story!
but 1ecm=x amount of serts, super serts, tts, power commanders, tuner can always reprogramme a good ecm.

u can use as many serts as u want to on any one ecm if your just plain stupid enough or have endless amounts of $$$ to waste,
if its the second i will give my bank acc numbers

Wow all this dongle talk ewwww I like the Best Road Glide Picture thread more.

If you have a bike that had a SERT Dongle and it originally programmed the ECM it left its signature in a private memory region of the ECM.  That way they know they were paired.   I don't know how it works, but apparently the first upload to an ECM the dongle clears its memory by writing to the ECM and than can no longer write to another ECM hence the marriage of the dongle to that specific ECMl.

You will have to buy another Dongle and then have it marry itself to your ECM hence creating a new marriage of ECM / Dongle for your bike.

There was rumor of a way to use a dongle from bike A on bike B and that was through a supposed hack of the Harley SERT Software pre the Super Tuner.   Supposedly in this case the software blocked the dongle from the check of the private memory region of the ECM allowing the Dongle to be used on any bike that was post 2002 through 2007 with a Delphi ECM.   Again supposedly, rumor, hearsay etc...

Actually it worked with 2001-2004 Delphi ECM's using the 3.50 or 4.10 SERT software using the .MT5 file extension.  It may also work on the 2005 ECM's using the 4.12 version, also .MT5 file extensions.

Because of a PM I received I would like to make something clear.  What I posted was information from 2 years ago when it was "going around" another forum.  I don't condone the hacks as I believe the people that develop legitimate software need to feed their families as well.
