The 2011 Road Glide Custom as listed on the MoCo's website is supposed to have a 2 into 1 exhaust OEM. WARDOC just brought one home and it's got the standard dual exhaust found on all H-D baggers. He said the stealer said it had been "discontinued"   What gives ?

I personally liked the 2 into 1 when they did it on the '10 Street Glide and Road Glide Custom.  Don't know why they changed it back to the 2-1-2 configuration.  I changed my 08 street glide to a 2 into 1 and loved it.  If it wasn't for the cutouts in the lowered bags on my SESG, I'd have gone to a 2 into 1 on that one also.

My Dealer said that the MOCO polled all Harley Dealerships and they majority of the responses they received were to put the dual exhaust system back on in 2011 model year.

I alway liked the balanced look of a pipe under both bags.  The D&D Fatcats 2-into-1 with the ghost pipe on the left was a nice set up.  Do they still offer that?

Steve, a couple questions since I know you are an expert tuner. Speaking strictly in stock OEM configuration, does the 2 into 1 of the 2010 add anything in either TQ or HP to the OEM 103 that these bikes come with ?  Next question would be for anyone reading this. Can you still buy the 2010 2 into 1 exhaust and does it fit the 2011 ?

I will not use the factory 2 into 1 on anything bigger than a 96" motor. The factory 2:1:2 makes more power and torque in anything bigger than a 96". We tested all the combinations of the stock factory parts and these were the results. Now when you go to modify(ie: remove Cat) I do not know what will happen.

They were hugely unpopular last year so HD went back to the dual system instead of the single.

You know, H-D Inc responds to customer input over the weirdest chit. So many important things they've refused to even acknowledge let alone do anything about over the years and yet they make a change on a model design that was intended to have a specific look due to customer input ? I thought the whole idea of offering a wide array of models was to try to meet individual customer tastes. You don't like a 2 into 1 exhaust, buy a different model.

Actually it was the other way around. They tried the single exhaust in 10 of their own choice. No one (or most ) didn't like it so they put it back the way it was for 2011. I personally came damn close to buying an FLTRX before I bought my FLHXSE2 and one of the things I was going to change was the single exhaust. I just thought it looked kinda funny and unbalanced with only one muffler under the bags.

That's the way I remember it as well.  While I have always been a proponent of a good 2 into 1 for overall performance, I and a lot of other riders prefer the balanced look of two mufflers on a bagger.  Two mufflers cost more than one slightly larger muffler, and of course there is no need for a crossover pipe, and then there is a savings for some fasteners that aren't needed.  Considering all the other cost cutting moves Harley has made in the past several years, I tend to believe they took it upon themselves to try the 2 into 1 exhausts on the SG and RG, and the negative feedback from customers was probably responsilbe for going back to dual mufflers.  Of course, that's just my take on the issue, and may be nothing but BS.

It is what it is and I am not dissing anyone's thoughts or info on this issue. My whole point was simply that H-D has always responded to customer complaints at the speed of a glacier and to hear that they made a change from one model year to the next is waaaaaaaaaay too proactive for me to swallow it being customer feedback.  Of course that's MY opinion based on nothing of any value other than being a Harley owner and H-D Inc watcher
