Title: Custom fit helmets
Post by: spepin on July 13, 2009, 03:15:26 AM
Okay, so I have a big head...  I have a really hard time finding helmets that fit (especially full face helmets).  On my SERK, I run a half lid and have tried several different lids -- all XXL -- before I found one that feels okay.  The trouble is, on long rides, and especially in hot weather, I get a really bad headache from the helmet squeezing on the sides of my head just above and forward of my ears (where you feel the muscles move when you open and close your jaw).  I've decided that if I can find a good company that makes DOT approved custom fit helmets, I'd spend the coin.  The trouble is that I can't find one.  Do they exist?

Thanks,

Steve.

www.carbonfiberhelmets.com

stopped at the factory in Orlando,Fl. while in Daytona.  a friend of mine has a round(charlie brown) shaped head.
they reshaped a helmet to fit him.  he loves it.

only reason I spent that kind of money on a helmet,, is ,, they are just as lite weight as a beanie ( novelty helmet )

they don't make it look like your wearing a garbage can on your head - like some do.

LOL -- Guess I have the same kind of head...  What do they do if I don't want to fly 3,000 miles to the factory to get it to fit right?

BTW, thanks for all the replies...  It seems like regardless -- this is the company to go with... :2vrolijk_21:

Late reply, but just in case anyone else has this issue.  I wear a 4X helmet (yes that's XXXXL) and had difficulty finding a supplier with 3/4 or open face helmet.  There's one supplier with a flat black colored one, but that seems to be all.  Years ago, this wasn't an issue.  Not sure why it is now unless all bikers are shrinking and don't need large helmets.   :-\  If anyone else wears a 4X or 5X and has been able to find open face helmets, please let me know.  Thanks.

Really strange how fit is so varied with helmets my snowmobile helmet (arctic cat) is a xxl fits huge on me (full face). I have tried lets say lots as i have a big head and have found xxl to xxxl to xl all fit with varying degrees of pressure. Tried a bunch at the last bike show and found one that really is a great fit ,open face xxl but it WAS the only one that felt good on my crater head and there were xxxl there to. Custom might be the way to solve the problem ...

The link is 5-1/2 years old.  Didn't work for me recently either, so I figured the company was kaput.  A quick Google search doesn't reveal a current company by that name either.

Don't know if that company morphed into Daytona Helmets or not. Made in Holly Hill, Fl and most comphy carbon fiber I have ever worn.

I did a little looking around. I found that the street address for Advanced Carbon Composites is the same as the company www.headtriphelmets.com. I couldn't find an address for Daytona helmets. In 2010 they had a stop order to stop making helmets from what looks like a recall. Same people don't know?

Yup, and while they are probably as good of head protection as any other half-helmet, here in NC if it aint D.O.T. lamanated under clear-coat, you better have the paperwork in yo pocket.

Bell has a factory custom helmet program. Once your head is CAD CAM measured you can reorder as n you need to.

2K, very happy to see your "avatars" are back. They have been sorely missed...
