Know someone locally who is considering getting a pre-order so they could sell the bike for a premium after it arrived.  I had to stifle a laugh.

Wow. IMO that takes some big cajones to do that. Here in TN (and I think most states would be similar) an individual cannot sell an untitled vehicle meaning he’d have to pay sales tax and registration which only adds to the amount he’d have to reach to sell at a profit. He may do it but I wouldn’t even consider it.

Thinking you could buy a Livewire as an "investment" and resale at a profit after paying tax, etc...plus, there's no indication these will appreciate in value.  This is how you easily take a $30k investment and parley it into a $20k.

Harley-Davidson opens pre-orders in Europe & Canada for LiveWire electric motorcycle

So, why start in Europe and Canada?  Is the LiveWire really geared toward those markets instead of the US?  Does the MoCo think they can sell more there than at "home"?  Interesting...

Gave me a great laugh this morning, thanks a bunch....glad it was in front of the computer and not you in front of your friend...wouldn't want to offend... :2vrolijk_21:

 ;D ;D

I gently explained to him that this LiveWire is priced at $10k to double what other brand comparable electric bikes are selling for.  Am sure it confused him somewhat since as far as I could tell he had just read the Harley hype & thought HD was way out on front here & demand would outstrip supply blah blah. His bad idea is well represented by the responses here already, my opinion it would be a very quick way to lose $5k to $10k.

Different friend long time back was considering the same when the V-Rod was being introduced.  Huge hype again & he figured he could make a fast $5k.  Changed his mind when he actually saw one in person and that proved to be a very wise decision because other than the first couple going fast, the dealers had plenty of V-Rods around here.

Other then a very few I don't think they will sell. Time will tell.

Reminds me of that old saying: How do you end up with $1 Million in the restaurant business...start with $2 Million.

The old saying on what to do to make $1,000,000.00 is to start with $2,000,000.00!   :2vrolijk_21:

Sometimes I think I’m nuts to pay what Harley asks for their motorcycles . . . and I've had 9 including 6 CVOs but I am not so nuts to even think about spending $30k on an Livewire.  I think the moco will be in for a big unpleasant surprise on this thing.

you could actually by a HD and sell it 6 months later for what you paid or maybe a profit. Them days are long gone, never to return.

I hate to say it but with all of the money the MOCO has invested the Livewire, it might be the nail in the coffin for Harley Davidson. I know of a Dealer that is in phase 2 of the release of the bike. He told me the MOCO is trying to force him to send Techs to the class. He told them no. He thinks the bike might fail within the first 2 years after the release or there will be major changes to the bike.

Be Safe

Those days are long gone.  I think HD management still believes it is true.  They must live in a 420 friendly state. :beatnik:

I am very interested in electric motorcycles.  I am on my 7th CVO.

I truly feel Harley missed the mark by a long shot with the Livewire.  The Zero is 10K less, has a quicker charge time, and longer range.

It might work in the city.  But a 90 mile range, I can not ride it to the Harley dealer and home with out getting a charge.
