Probably, it’s a natural progression from Vespas and scooters. Then up to bigger bikes if they want. I’m for it, I’m for anything that gives back or adds to motorcycling.

My first mc was a 50. I had the red/white but always wanted the blue/silver. I saw one above the sales floor at a Honda dealer a couple years ago. I was looking at the blue one when a sales guy told me he had purchased it for $2000. I paid $150 used for mine saved all my bean picking and fruit picking money to get it. You know the old story, told parents I wanted a mc they said I would have to get a job and buy it myself so I did. I was 10. ;D

Way I read the announcement they are now 125cc? I rode my 50 so much it literally wore out, then sold it for $250.00. Later when my son was in his early teens I bought another one to take camping to ride in campground for $250 that was like new. Now the new ones, as I read the announcement, is $4199.00?

Carl, that is no way to talk about the big or little bits of the engines you have grenaded and the pieces they left on the side of the road.

I was going for this when I turned 13....forget a 50.  I wanted that HUGE 125...all 13 hp of it..... ;D

Raised on a farm in NE Alabama, this was going to be the bike for me on and off road...mowed and baled hay more times than I can count to save up....had all the brochures there were and the local dealer also dealt in HD's....walked right past them to this baby but never got it...mom finally said no way....that just made me want to ride all that much more and ma, look at me now..... :bananarock:

Still, $4,200 for the Monkey?  Wow, nostalgia costs a pretty penny....oh wait, this is an HD forum, we already know that... :huepfenlol2:

Thats an early 70's  DT-125 right Haird?

That was my first motorcycle.  Learned on a Friends Honda Trail 70.  Then conned Dad into letting me ride his DT-125.  A year later it was mine.  It was to big for me, but I loved it.

That's the one, Dave.  I trial-rode that thing many a mile sitting on it in the dealership.  Only difference is I wanted the Yellow/black color scheme.

Yes, 2Lane, you are correct in your assessment of me, blowing Harley engines to hell.  Everything to the limit.  That's the way I roll.  If it won't take it, we'll build another one.  LOL.  Crazy?  Yes.  Stupid?  No.  Consistent?  Always.  My question is, and you may find it in bad taste, but what or why, is there a conversation on this Site, CVOHarley.com, about a phucking honda?  I've outrun goldwings, and interstates.  Albeit, maybe, because the riders didn't have the gonads to twist them for the long haul, which most of them that I've met lack, why give them place here?  That's all I'm saying.  I'm in no way trying to match witts with you, or in no way debate with you.  I know I'm outmatched.  I respect you, Sir.  The fact is, I have no respect for Honda Motorsickles.  Never have.  Never will.  Later--HUBBARD

I guess you could petition Neal to remove all non-Harley related sections of the site.

I, the OP, posted because it’s “In The News” and related to the motorcycle industry. I believe it’s interesting to see what others are doing to try and grow interest in motorcycling. Harley is not the entirety of motorcycling and likely not most kids first bike either.

Are you enjoying any of the BMW K1600B discussions?

Maybe that's a difference in outlook Carl.  I don't "respect" machines.  Might admire or even respect the effort, design and intellect that goes in to them.  But after that they're all just hunks of metal, plastic, and various other insulators.  That's why I always told folks I don't care what they ride, who they ride or even how they ride; just so long as they ride.  As I got older I even dropped the last part.  Don't even care if they ride so long as they leave me the hell alone while I ride.

Personally I thought the little bike was interesting.  I've got no use for one.  Doesn't mean I can't learn something from it or know of a kid that might be interested.  After all, it's a market that Harley doesn't even come close to addressing.  One of the vendors here that I do respect has been writing a lot recently about a new-to-him BMW bike.  Learning things there too.

I don't get religion about bikes.  Some are interesting.  Many are not.  It's anyone's personal choice. There endeth that lesson.  :huepfenlol2:

the Honda 50... the bike that perked my interest in riding more than 50 years ago, rode my first one when I was 8 years old, had one for years my kids grew up on.... and still have one in the shed my grand kids will grow  up with.. its a toy and a fun toy. find it very interesting that a throwback is hitting the market... not sure why their making new ones cause the ones from the 60s are still going, you cant kill the little SOBs  :2vrolijk_21:

So true!  I wonder how many of us started on the Z50.  Mine was a "hand down" from my older brothers.  I was 5 and my Dad told me I could ride it but I needed to stay in first gear.
She was WFO in first gear all morning until my Dad came in from the field to have lunch and heard the little Z revving beyond all limits.

He was shaking his head and appeared annoyed with me, but I know he was smirking and cracking up that the "motor head" gene had been passed on one more generation.
"Shift to second for crying out loud!  Before you blow that thing up!"

I kept playing with different pipes to try and make it noisier :huepfenlol2: now I know where I was headed. When I was about 5 our family was camping just outside Tracy CA. When I witnessed about 200 H.A. members being escorted by motor cops after they had raised hell up the road in another campground the day before. They were hollering and making all kinds of noise going down the road. I remember thinking how cool they were. I got my 50 a couple years later. ;D

Never owned a Honda. Started riding on mini bikes, and a while later a gal up the street got a brand new Honda P50 (late 1960s). Every kid who was big enough in the neighborhood took turns riding it, took forever for it to run out of gas.  Nobody had a mc license & nobody ever got stopped by the cops on our little street.  A year or so later a friend bought a Kawasaki 90, between that & the little Honda, knew a mc was in my future.  Good memories, not wiling to part with $4 grand to relive them....   ;D
