I am on a bike trip and having intermitent issues with the cooling system not operating. No fans a and no hot water flow through the radiators. It seems to come and go. I checked the fuses and the connections by the pmp. May be a strange question but could the key fob which acts up sometimes be the problem?
Any help would be appreciated

Key fob only disarms the security system. Once it is off bike will run. Will not re-arm until ignition turned off so don’t see how this could cause the problem.
Do you have a check engine light? If so retrieve the code(s).
Most likely a faulty water pump. Many, many have failed. I’d call the closest dealer to make sure he had a pump in stock and head there. Pretty simple and quick fix.
Same thing happened to a buddy I was on a road trip with last month.
Good luck.

If I remember correctly the Temp Sensor for the Fans is in the Left Radiator Lower Fairing. If the water is not circulating then possibly would not trip the fan because all of the heat would be trapped in the heads... I agree sounds like a failing water pump or electrical connection to it.

Stupid question, but how would you check to see if the pump was flowing/defective? IT Has been really hot here (98-100) lately and the fans have not come on when I shut the bike down when they probably should have. This is making me wonder. No Check engine light, no loss of power, just no Fans kicking in when I really think its hot enough that they should.

The pumps seem to be a weak link. It runs when engine is running. My 2015 FLTRUSE went out at 15K my riding buddy same bike went out at 12K both on the same trip. Bikes had check engine light and temp lights off and on. Service code P1019. Follow instructions for changing coolant and you will be able to tell if the pump is running.

Turn ignition on. Do not start engine. Roll on throttle about half way and hold it there. After a few seconds the water pump and both fans should come on. Feel around the water pump. There should be at least a slight vibration if the pump is running.

Thank you for responses. It has been intermitent and there is no water circulation from pump. Just quit again and this time the check eng light did come on. Guess issues kike this are why hd dropped the crapy system on a lot of m8 bikes

Thoughts on riding bije without head cooling?

A guy on the RG forum took his apart. The electrical connection broke the solder joint

Thoughts on riding bije without head cooling?
The Twin Cooled bikes are tuned differently than the air cooled models, with more ignition advance among other items. The thing that allows them to change certain settings on the TC bikes is the lower and better controlled head temps. If you ride without the cooling system operational, you may experience things like detonation if the system isn't able to self correct. If you were to call H-D and ask if it's OK to ride it as is they would probably say no, but on the other hand plenty of people have done it when they've had problems and so far I haven't seen any reports of it causing a major failure. If you do encounter detonation (pinging), take whatever corrective actions you can to eliminate it. Running in a lower gear versus loading the engine too much in higher gears would be one suggestion, letting the engine cool more often another. And of course buy the highest octane fuel you can find.

Sorry to hear that. My pump broke at 4200 miles and I carry a spare water pump when on long trip.

Check out this Bosch pump. Looks amazingly similar except for the electrical plug location. $67 from Amazon, compared to $400+ from HD:

There are several on there with different connector configurations.
