Title: Letting go
Post by: MAS on December 21, 2004, 05:07:24 AM
I sold my 2000 Heritage this past weekend and am experiencing some feelings of seperation. It was my first Harley and I really grew fond of that bike. I had ridden sport bikes all my adult life so riding that bike was a very different experience. That heavy cruiser started the passion I now have for American V-Twins. The bike is not fast, and does not handle exceptionally well, but it is VERY COOL!!
As I seem to jump on the SEEG more often than not these days it seemed a shame to let that bike just sit in my garage, so when a friend's wife asked to buy it for him for Christmas I agreed. Hopefully he will ride it and enjoy it as much as I did. I am sure that some of you have stories and possibly pictures of bikes in your past that you had a hard time letting go. Here is a picture of mine.

Like MAS, I've had a couple of scoots that I really felt uncomfortable letting go.  Eventually, they fell into the "shouldn't have sold 'em" catagory.  Others, out of the many, many HD's I've owned, looked really good with the tail lights heading out the drive.  [smiley=laugh.gif]  My Centennial Duece punched out to 103...indeed a screamer!

My '97 Softail Springer....too much motor work to describe, lowered and probably the best handling bike I've put together.

I don't blame you for missing that bike.  I really like the color scheme and laced wheels.  I don't usually lean towards fat tire Harleys but that one really is sharp.

But, as has already been said, it sounds like you can at least visit sometimes.  And it's not like you now have nothing to ride.

Parting is such sweet sorrow....

I know how you feel!!!  [smiley=disappointed.gif] This is a pic of my last bike, a 96 FLHR. Tons of motor work, chrome ect. But the bottom line is everytime I get on the new glide its all forgotten[smiley=grin2.gif]

Gentlemen,

Thank you all for your pictures and thoughts, this thread has been very cathartic. What beautiful bikes we have parted with, should have known I wasn't the only guy who sold a bitchin Harley [smiley=laugh.gif]. The grieving process must be well under way for me as I have been thinking about what new bike would look good next to the SEEG and the Big Dog!

Loved this bike too. I got rid of this, the springer and an 01 Ultra for the SEEG. 3 bikes was too many (at least that is what my wife said)

My '04 RKC.  Was going to trade it in but dealer said he wouldn't give me a penny for engine mods, chrome etc..  I traded in my wifes near stock Heritage and she's now riding the RKC.  At least we kept it in the family.
