Title: What are you guys seeing on the dyno?
Post by: HAWGZ1LA on August 13, 2014, 06:53:18 PM
Stock 14' cvo breakout with s.e. tuner and D&D low cat.  Dealer dyno tuned made 84-85 hp and 105-106 trq.

This seem low?

Seems a bit low for a non stock bike :nixweiss: You're really not "Stock" anymore.

Well it is stock other than what I specified. Tuner and pipe. Not like it's a fully built unit.

Any ideas on why it went so low guys?

Was it a canned tuned or was it run across the rollers to get numbers? Mine is just a canned tune and I have no idea what it does. SE tuner installed when I bought it and they just pulled a map from somewhere to match my parts. Probably less that yours since I'm running true duals.

They "dyno tuned" it. I'm starting to think they just stuck a generic downloaded tune in it.

Not impressed to say the least. Especially for what they charge to do it.

Mine is the same as yours, 86,59 HP and 106.69 TQ,which I believe is "normal" for the Breakout. Remember we have the counterbalanced engine, which robs HP and about TQ. I have Bassani ProStreet Turnout pipes, but otherwise stock.

I'd still like to know why we are so far off from what cvo1717 is seeing...

I ran 95/95 at 4000 feet elevation and 102 degrees temp. I worried about the numbers until I ran against a friend who dyno at 117/111 and pull away from him like he was sitting still.

Don't chase the numbers, just build it the way you want it!

Dyno runs can vary quite a bit depending on who the mechanic is. My numbers of 86 hp and 106 tq are about normal for a Breakout CVO with pipes and tuner added. I've looked at other CVO dyno runs and it seems the rubber mounted (A) engines have about 10 more ft. pds. torque than our counterbalanced (B) engines. The Breakout still has the best power-to-weight ratio of all CVO bikes.

I ended up with 87 and 106, so about the same I have seen from others.

I'd still like to know why we are so far off from what cvo1717 is seeing...

The numbers from a chassis dynamometer like the DynoJet aren't exact, and aren't meant to be.  If you want to know the difference between his bike and yours, have both bikes run on the same dyno at the same time by the same operator.  Otherwise, comparisons are meaningless and an exercise in futility.

Just for your peace of mind, the numbers you posted are typical of what most people have posted for a 110B engine with just a pipe change and tune.  And don't fall for the hype from the pipe manufacturers that claim you will get X% more power.  Some of the most popular pipes in terms of looks and sound are among the worst for actual performance.

If the bike runs the way you want, and looks the way you want, and sounds the way you want, then who gives a chit what the number is on a chart?

Jerry truer words were never spoken. I got a little hung up on my numbers after my new heads were in place...until I rode it. Those numbers can't affect my ear to ear grin when I rip that throttle all the way past 6k rpm's. This bike has never run like it does now. Thanks to John Sachs for supplying the heads and putting me in touch with my tuner Doug Lofgren. There are so many factors that affect the final numbers, location of dyno in shop, my lowers being installed, air cleaners, temps, on and on and on. If it runs like you want it to run RIDE THE DAMN THING!

I got, Max Power = 95.18 and Max Torque = 112.67, with S.E. Pro Super Tuner and a set of Bassani Pro-Street Turn Outs. I personally think it runs great and has plenty of power. I bought the bike to ride and enjoy and to me, it looks and runs great, gets lots of compliments and it puts a smile on my face every time I ride it.

Nope! Like I said before, it depends on who is running things and lots of other things. I have the same bike, same pro tuner, same pipes. 86 hp and 106 tq. They are the average numbers for 110B SE engine.

Hahaha, guess I'd get same as your numbers.
Just kidding, as it's been said earlier, numbers don't mean much. Not to me anyway. At least we've got good taste.

Stopped into my local dealer today looking for a skull ring and talked to the guys in service for the hell of it. They had done a 13' cvo breakout with v&h 2 into 2 pipes recently and had the print out in a 3 ring binder still.

93.90hp 118.52 trq!

Considering paying 50$ for one pull on their dyno and seeing what I get. if it makes the same as the orginal numbers I have, we know they did a chitty tune at the other dealer. If my numbers jump up I know the local dealer has a generous dyno and I can stop thinking how I am. Think thats a good 50$ spent? For what i paid to have the original dyno tune job done I think im entiled to have the best numbers and tune job availible.

With nil changes to the bike on a 8yr old dynojet dyno I pulled 111hp compares to a brand spanker dynojet dyno I pulled 122hp. They are a tuning device so as long as it goes well then you should be happy. But if someone asks I now say 122rwhp!

10:1 pistons, sert, V & H 2/2 dynoed 102/118. 122 seems overly generous. Have read the V&H is not best performance wise so think there is more power to be had.

Here's my 14 BO dyno - happy with the way it runs. I had the stg 3 hi-comp kit installed also went with the H/D cam plate kit and oil pump.
Had Fulsac recore the stock slip-on's - very happy.

Started with HP 86.09 and TQ 101.13 ended up with HP 101.63 and TQ 115.72

Previous ride was an 07 FLSTF 96" upgraded to a 103" stg 4 kit with 257 cams

Two very different engines. Both fun to ride but, the 103-stg 4 was real hard to hang onto at times!!

With Master Tune TTS and Rush sliponsw/ 2" baffles I was handed a sheet showing 95/123. But I still have a decel pop and is being looked at again. Hope these are not false numbers to get me out the door. I am not accepting this tune with the popping. I am being told by a respected tuner that teaches techs how to tune that his tune is not what it should be and to stay away from him. any ideas from REAL TUNERS out there what he needs to do or can I get the cords and fine tune alittle at a time on my laptop?

I spoke to one of my local shops in town, and he is still knee deep in tuning bikes of all kinds. He built the heads for LE Tonglet, ProStock Chapion a couple years ago in NHRA,

His take on dynoing a bike is different than others... If I can explain this correctly.

He tunes to the best the bike will reasonably let him make, with max numbers. Then changes the specs to tune in seconds not RPM's.  He'll lose a couple numbers on each side but close the gap to which that number is made, which means faster shift points.

A recent customer was running a 'Busa at No Problem. Average ET was 9.40's. Brought bike to Paul to retune and dyno. He wanted more hp numbers. Tuned to his request for more HP munbers. Bike slowed down 2 tenths. Brought back and let Paul Dyno again, using his meathods, and picked up 2 tenths from original average.

So, doesn't matter what the peak numbers are so much, but how the bike responds overall...

Paul

Took the bike back to the guy and told him that I wanted him to take the time and figure out how to get the popping out. Got it back and he was able to get almost all of the popping out. Said that I had the newr version of the tuner that had a Decel paramiter that he didnt know about. Im happy but I dont think this is newer tuner cause it Only had if I remeber right 2011-2013 Softail on the box.

He just fed you a lie as an alibi for his p-poor tune.  It had nothing to do with the TTS device or software.  As I've mentioned many times on this site, just because someone has a dyno and calls himself a tuner doesn't mean he's worth a chit.

Before you spend any more money on tunes to eliminate your popping, make absolutely certain you have no air leaks in the exhaust system.  Not that I'm saying that's the problem, just saying it would be a real PITA to spend all that money for tunes if the real problem is a simple air leak.

When I first got my bike I put on Bassani Road Rage 2-1 and got 90.14 power and 111.36 for torque. Was never really happy with the look or the sound of the pipes but made for a pretty good ride.  Just got my bike back today after having Big Radius 2-2 installed. Dyno came back at 83.02 power and 102.27 torque. Not sure why the lower numbers are performing better, but with the new setup there is a much better sound and performance. When I give it gas much more responsive and seems like it has more oooomph to it that the old setup. Just seems bizarre that 2-2 with lower numbers is blowing away my 2-1 setup.

Just had my '14 BO on the dyno this week and got 105hp / 112tq with stage 3 and V&H long shot staggered. Bike pulls really hard and runs so much smoother, less lumpiness at idle and no stutter on initial acceleration. Very happy with my results.

My 2017 CVO had 106 HP and 106 TQ at 5200 rpms.   I have the stage 4 kit D&D exhaust with Screamin Eagle Programmer (only because warranty)  I dont know what the Max TQ was all I cared about was the peak at both.

2017 CVO Breakout Pro Street: Worked MVA heads, Red Shift 627 cams, ported SE 58 t-Body, Freedom Performance 2 into 1 stepped headers (modified), T-Max computer, 117 kit (all clearances blueprinted), and a bunch of little things that most say don't matter= 135.87 HP at 5850 RPM and 134.4 Tq. on pump gas and within 1 HP on two other dynos. Fuel mileage runs 37 to 42 depending on city/hwy and how hard I twist the wick.
Running with my pals modified V-Rod (SE cams, CFR headers without a baffle and obnoxiously loud, 2 teeth off of the countershaft sprocket, T-Max computer, air box mods, Avon Cobra rear tire, and more small stuff) and both of us riding them like we stole them all day, I only got 32.7 mpg. That was the worst mileage I have ever seen. He got 23.8 mpg for that day, and I can SMOKE him! P.S. my stock dunlop 240 tire is fairly useless and will be replaced soon with an Avon Cobra.
We will be doing the dragstrip thing when I get that Cobra on there, and I'll post the results then. Dyno shows 165 MPH when it hits the RPM limiter! I've only had it up to 147+ so far, but it is still pulling! I'll post up a dyno sheet when I figure out how.  TIMINATOR
